How much breast implants cost?

Cost of Breast Augmentation

This is a very common question, but the best anyone can do without meeting you in person is to give you some ballpark numbers. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, in 2011 the national average surgeon’s fee for breast augmentation was $3,694 with silicone implants and $3,308 with saline implants.

This is just the surgeon’s fee, and does not include fees for the surgical facility, anesthesia, medical tests, prescriptions, surgical garments, or other miscellaneous costs related to surgery. You’ll find here on RealSelf that the average cost is $6500, but it also depends on what part of the country you’re in. $6,000 to $9,000 is probably the norm, with some surgeons charging less, and some more.

Please don’t choose your surgeon based on who’s offering the best price. Be sure to consult with only board-certified plastic surgeons, and remember your health and safety are priceless. (Andrew Smith, MD, FACS, Orange County Plastic Surgeon)

The cost of breast implants varies by the region, the type of implant, the surgeon, and the location of the surgery (hospital vs. outpatient surgery suite). Make sure you ask about all of the costs involved. In my practice the current cost of a breast augmentation with saline implants is $6550 and for silicone gel implants the cost is $7500. This includes the surgeon’s, fee, anesthesia fee, implants, consultation (ie everything except prescription meds or preoperative testing.) (Christopher J. Davidson, MD, FACS, Boston Plastic Surgeon)

Cost varies by whether they are saline or silicone. Make sure you are dealing with a board certified plastic surgeon. For saline implants coast start at $5,000. Silicone implants start at $6,500.

This all depends on where in the world you have the operation. The price is Australia and the US is higher than say Mexico and Thailand. The most important thing you need to consider is:

  1. Who is performing the operation. What is the follow up arrangement and the fee for revisional surgery.
  2. Where is the operation being performed? An accredited facility?
  3. What implant is being used? Make sure you get an itemised invoice from your surgeon and see how the cost is broken down.  (Pouria Moradi, MBBS, FRACS, Sydney Plastic Surgeon)
