What should I ask for to look normal?
Patience and multi stage procedure
Nov 25, 2023
Hello Amber Smiles.
I am so sorry for your child hood experiences and for your subsequent surgical management. After reviewing your photos I can tell you surgical procedures to improve the overall appearance and function of your labia can help. Given the amount of scar tissue and holes and displacement of tissue it should be a 2-3 step process involving removal of tissue, adjusting placement of tissue and laser resurfacing. Please be certain to seek out at least 3 in person consultations…
Do I need a clitoral hood reduction?
Normal?
Nov 2, 2023
Hello.
There is a wide range of what is normal with labia. From you photo I can see that you have inner labia that protrude past the outer labia which is normal but if it bothers you (causes rubbing chaffing pain or discomfort) then it can be addressed. I also notice the skin appears chaffed and with a rough appearance. Again if this doesn’t cause discomfort then no worries. Should it be desired to reduce the size of the inner lips, the hood would also need reduction. Best wishes. Dr. Poucher
Why is there risk of nerve damage to the clitoris with a labiaplasty?
Risk of nerve damage Labiaplasty and Clitoral Hood Reduction
Oct 3, 2023
Hello. Thanks for your question. All surgeries or procedures that involve cutting through skin carry a risk of nerve damage or injury and they must be disclosed no matter how small that risk will be. With clitoral hood reduction and labiaplasty, not only are the dorsal clitoral nerves at risk but so are their many tiny branches. There are labial nerves as well that are to be avoided. Most skilled surgeons will know the anatomy well enough and be experienced enough to avoid transecting or…
Can I have a labiaplasty without a clitoral hood reduction?
Labiaplasty, Hood reduction combo
Feb 6, 2023
Hello kolivia,
This is a question I encounter frequently. While it is my experience the 90% of the patients I see need a hood reduction in combination with the labiaplasty to be able to achieve their goal, there are cases where labiaplasty can be done alone either if the patient can accept less of a reduction that they had hoped for or if their anatomy lends itself to labiaplasty alone. The key is how much extra hood skin is present and where it attaches to the back side of the labia. The…
Does 4.5 hours for a labiaplasty sound accurate? 4 cm long on each side. I was not expecting the
Procedure Time
Oct 25, 2022
Hi LovelyRedLace,
Great question! Time for the procedure definitely depends on the number of procedures involved as well as the amount of tissue being removed. Other factors include the amount of detail suturing that will be required. In my office procedures are done with the patient awake so additional time is set aside for pre-numbing. On average labiaplasty on a patient with the length you mention (including a clitoral hood reduction) will take about 2 hours of surgery time and 1 hour of…
