Breast Augmentation Following Breast Reduction

Vancouver Breast augmentation following breast reduction may seem odd at first but actually there can be real benefits to this. Some patients have large and droopy breasts and want a lift but are not particularly unhappy with their size.

In those cases, a lift may not be very effective but a reduction in the droopy breast tissue and replacement with an implant that can sit higher can be beneficial. This is often done in two stages with the reduction done first and the augmentation months later.

Some patients don’t plan on an augmentation following a reduction but may find that, as a result of having children or weight loss, that they desire more fullness. A note of caution: it is important that your surgeon is aware of how the previous surgery was performed to minimize the risk of poor blood supply that could interfere with healing.

Make sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon as you investigate your options. .

Will pregnancy ruin my breast implants

If you become pregnant, your implants in Vancouver will not be affected, but the overlying skin and breast tissue can change. Most of the time, pregnancy hormones will cause the lobular tissue to increase in size to get ready to breastfeed.

This will cause an increase in the size of your breasts as well as stretch the overlying skin. Problems may arise once you deliver or discontinue with breast feeding. The breast tissue will shrink, however the overlying skin may stay stretched out.
If this is the case, the skin may sag over the implant giving you a “snoopy” deformity (implant sits high and skin hangs over the lower part of implant). In this case, you will require a breast lift.

It is a complicated issue

From the picture, it looks like there is more volume on your right side than the left. Has it looked like this from the beginning? It is hard to tell with only one picture and not examining you, but you may have a fluid collection, such as a hematoma, on that side accentuating the asymmetry.

Also, the implant may be “riding high,” for you should start the massage and superior strap earlier rather than later. If you are not getting the answers that you want from your surgeon, then you should get a second opinion.

Your cardiologist approval is a must
You need to have your plastic surgeon , anesthesiologist and cardiologist coordinate your care. There should be no problem with the surgery if your are premedicated.

Reducing Pain and Recovery Time

Just as every patient is different ( pain tolerance, recovery time etc. etc.), alas, every Plastic Surgeon is different as well. So you will get a lot of different answers to this question.

First and foremost, make sure that you have this discussion with each surgeon that you plan on visiting for a consultation.

For my practice, I believe the single most important thing we do to decrease pain and recovery times is to have patients be as active as possible for the first few days after surgery ( but no exercise).
So walking, moving their arms, going out to dinner etc., is encouraged. I find that the patients that do not follow our advice are the ones that take longer to return to their normal daily activities.

Breast Implants after Reduction

You can have a breast augmentation after a reduction. It is important that you either use the same surgeon who performed your reduction or have the report from your original surgery. This way your surgeon will be aware of how you previous surgery was performed and take that into account when planning your augmentation.

Schedule a consult with a plastic surgeon so that they may examine you and outline your options.

Implants too large

I just saw this question so you probably already had your surgery.. I hope things went well. It’s hard for anyone to say what size you will be with 600cc implants without knowing how much breast tissue you started with and your goals.
You are a candidate for breast augmentation with a breast lift or a breast lift alone. It is unlikely that you will get a good result with implants alone.

Vancouver Breast Augmentation scars

There’s several techniques to do this surgery. Some hide the scar in the armpit, some in the fold, some around the areola and other go through the umbilicus (belly button). That last one is a great place to hide a scar, but not a great place to do a breast augmentation through.

The reason is that the other scars heal extremely well and in a month or two will already barely be perceptible. The axillary one is a great option so that there’s no breast scar but not every one is a candidate for it.
You’ll need to go in for a consultation but it sounds like you’re pretty serious about getting it done.

Breast augmentation. Am I too old?

For a healthy patient 50 years of age is certainly not too old to consider breast augmentation. I would avoid being overly aggressive but why not proceed if it is of interest to you?

I have operated on patients significantly older than yourself and although the aesthetics were not as good as a surgery on a younger woman, the level of delight was very high.

I am sorry to say that because your nipple complex and the majority of your breast tissue is below your breast fold- you will require a breast lift to achieve any perkiness. I am confident that you would be very disappointed with only an implant.

How much as a gummy bear?

The gummy bear implant was introduced just about a year ago after its final FDA approval. As you know, it is a teardrop shaped implant. It must have a thicker silicone inside or would not maintain its teardrop shape.

It is also a textured implant. It must have a rough surface so that it’s takes on the inside. If this implant does not state and it were to turn sideways or upside down the breast would look abnormal.

Prices will vary from surgeon to surgeon, but in my own practice the gummy bear ads about $1000 to my standard silicone gel fees. Each implant is about $500 more than a standard silicone gel implant. As you look it prices with surgeons I recommend that you don’t just focus on the dollar amount, but on the experience and confidence of the surgeon that you’re looking at.

If you like results in the photos of the plastic surgeon you have seen, then GO FOR IT! As you can see there are a lot of biased opinions about implants in Vancouver.

One consideration is the amount your skin stretches when there is tension placed on it. Another, is that the breast tissue will shrink a little- due to the pressure of the implant in the first year after surgery.
High profile implants have proportionately more projection than a comparable moderately profiled implant, which gives them a more spherical or ball-like shape; not good for a natural appearance. Moreover, it is well known fact by experienced and carefull surgeons who do a lot of breast augmentations that high profile implants cause permenant changes to the skin (stretching), breast tissue (thinning), and even rib cage (depressions)! Therefore, high profile implants are probably not the best choice that could be made by you, especially if you are considering saline filled implants in Vancouver.

You said it yourself that you have too much skin, which really means that your breasts have become ptotic (saggy). An implant choice like size or projection should not be used to remedy that situation.
Your best result comes in the form of a breast lift along with a carefully planned breast augmentation. This will result in a natural and pretty result that will give you hopefully many years of satisfaction.

Using a large or high profile implant to ‘lift’ your breasts rarely results in anything natural or pretty. Finally, be sure to consult with surgeons certified by the American Board of Platic Surgery and who are very experienced with simultaneous breast augmentation and breast lift.

This will give you the best chance of getting the result you want.

Moderate profile breast implants in Vancouver

High profile breasts implants generally look very exaggerated. Unless, you want the exaggerated look then I would recommend moderate profile.
Moderate vs. High Profile Implants.

I think it really depends on your chest diameter. High profile implants are not used as commonly in Vancouver as moderate implants are used by the average surgeon according to the implant sales persons.

High profile implants in Vancouver are used for woman who are more petite with fairly narrow chest diameters. Each surgeon has there own preferences and there are no absolute answers. Ask your doctor how the different diameters will look on you based on your exam.

Silicone or saline

In general, silicone gel breast implants in Vancouver feel better, wrinkle less, last longer, but cost more than saline breast implants. The only two advantages of saline implants is that they can be put through remote incisions like through the underarm or bellybutton and cost less than silicone gel.
it looks like you are likely a great candidate for breast augmentation. Of course a physical exam is needed to give you any meaningful advice.

Both saline and silicone gel implants are very safe. That said, in my practice, 99% of my patients opt for silicone implants. Silicone implants help to create the more natural look and feel. In terms of the gap between your breasts, it looks like you will get very nice cleavage formation after augmentation.

Cleavage formation after augmentation has to do with 2 variables:

1) surgical technique – medial breast implant pocket formation and

2) your anatomy – what is the real width of your sternal chest bone? Please see a board certified plastic surgeon to learn more about your options.

Breast implants choice- saline or silicone?

Just based on your pictures you will do well with either saline or silicone breast augmentation. There are differences between each that will be explained to you during your consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon.

In simplest terms – silicone implants tend to feel more natural than saline implants. A majority of the augmentations that I perform are silicone. If there is a leak of a saline implant. The saline which is like water is absorbed by the body and the breast deflates.

If a leak occurs in a silicone implant, the silicone can leak out into the scar tissue surrounding the implant. Both should last about 10 years. Talk to your surgeon and get all the facts prior to surgery.
If I have droopiness of my breast do I need an uplift?

You can have anything that you want but with your droopiness, just putting breast implants in, even large ones will not look the best. You could though have a small uplift with small scar to try and achieve what you want.

98% of my patients choose silicone gel breast implants.

Incision for breast augmentation with TT

While technically possible, implants can be placed through the abdominoplasty incision. However, most plastic surgeons do not perform this type of surgery routinely, as the visibility is limited, and the control of the crease below the breast is compromised.

There are however, several surgeons who have a large series of this type of procedure that maybe you should consult. An incision below the breast is inconspicuous, resulting in a small scar, and I think, with better results.

Different surgeons offer different suggestions

It’s not unusual for a plastic surgeon to suggest using a compression band above the breasts to push the implants downward. In this case, your surgeon simply suggested a workout bra instead. There really isn’t any one “right” way to encourage breast implants to drop and settle following your breast augmentation surgery.

Even if your friends with implants weren’t told to sleep with a sports bra over their breasts, I’m sure their surgeons had some other specific post-op instructions, like regular massage. All of these recommendations share the same goal of encouraging the surrounding tissue to soften and relax, allowing the implants to settle into their final position.

Different surgeons offer different suggestions

It needs to match your body

There are a number of factors that sometimes are mutually exclusive when choosing the right profile. The first thing to consider is what the base diamter of the breast is, because the implant has to fit inside without being squeezed in.

The second decision is volume, in other words how large do you want the implants to be? Combining these two considerations is what gives you the correct profile type. The high-profile designs will not have as “natural” of a slope as moderate profile, but choosing moderate would often mean a smaller size in order to fit in the base diameter.

it may come down to deciding whether the smaller but more natural look is more important than getting the size you prefer, or vice-versa.
you appear as though you would get a nice result with implants alone. however, you should consult with board certified plastic surgeons that can better evaluate you in person to further determine this.

Will an implant replaced my lost fullness and not increase my sag?

Undoubtedly you can restore much of your lost fullness by having a breast implant placed but you must realize that you have some stretching of your skin as a result of your pregnancies that isn’t reversible.

The added weight of an implant will cause some droopiness so I would advise you to avoid going too large or if necessary have a limited uplift to just raise your nipple position in combination with your breast implants.
I think the potential for improvement is great but realize that you may not return to exactly her appearance before your 2 children. You might possibly think you look better but possibly not!Meet with an American Board of Plastic Surgery certified plastic surgeon to discuss options and review many before and after photos of other patients.

Can I get Away without a Lift?

You will likely be happier with your cosmetic outcome if you have a breast lift along with your breast augmentation. Most of your breast tissue sits below your breast fold (parenchymal ptosis), so you run the risk of having your native breast tissue appear to be sliding off your implants if you do not have a lift.

Another option, besides having a breast augmentation and lift together, would be to undergo a breast augmentation alone, followed by a lift at a later date if you really don’t like the look with implants alone.

You can definitely achieve a similar outcome. I would recommend a moderate profile implant. Correct sizing can be performed at the plastic surgeons office
