Will root canal cause black gum line?
Black Gums Due to Root Canal are Treatable
Apr 29, 2014
Black lines at the gum line are common due to darkening of the tooth after having an root canal treatment. However, with the proper restoration, i.e. a Zirconium crown, there is a high likelihood that we can mask the black line. You definitely want to avoid a PFM if black lines are of concern to you. Good luck!
What are my options for restoring space for a congenitally missing incisor?
Solution for Missing Tooth
Apr 29, 2014
The best way to treat your situation is to schedule an initial consultation with an Orthodontist to discuss what options you have to open up the space for the lateral incisor without extracting a premolar, as well as to shift the midline back in to the correct position. After the orthodontic treatment is complete, you will need to have an implant placed in the position of the missing lateral incisor and allow 4-6 months for this to heal prior to loading this with a crown. At the time your…
I have broken my 3 year old dental implants. What can I do about it?
Broken Implant Caused by Bad Bite or Grinding?
Apr 29, 2014
This is a very unique situation. It is very rare for an implant to break. (In the past, small diameter implants had a higher failure rate.) However, to have 2 implants break makes me wonder: could you be grinding or have a particular biting or clenching bite that your previous dentist did not evaluate properly? At this point, unfortunately, your best option is to evaluate your bite and determine which is the best implant and implant angle for your mouth. I also highly encourage you to…
Problems and Complications with Lumineers?
Complications with Lumineers
Apr 10, 2014
When Lumineers or any restoration are placed properly most of the complications listed should not be experienced. The reason for #1: Halitosis- may be due to: poor seal on the restorations which allows bacteria to gather at the margins of the restoration and can create Halitosis (bad breath); #2- Breaks or cracks: can be due to improper bonding or an inaccurate bite. The breaks can also be due to a patient that is grinding his/her teeth and not wearing a Nightguard to protect the…
Can Porcelain Lumineers Be Placed over Existing Porcelain Crowns?
Not the Best Option
Apr 10, 2014
Lumineers and non-prep restorations can be bonded to crowns. However, I do not recommend this method because it will add bulk to your teeth and make your teeth appear to be a lot bigger than they are. The best option is to remove the crowns and have Cosemetic Emax crowns placed. Good luck!
How Much Does It Cost for Tooth Replacement
Tooth Replacement is Not Your Only Option
Jan 27, 2014
Pregnancy can often times severely affect the gums due to the
changes in hormone levels. For this reason is it highly important to
visit your dentist on a regular basis for cleanings during the
pregnancy. When the tissues are inflamed, infected and start to recede,
you may need to see a Periodontist (gum specialist) for further
evaluation of the area. Gum recession does not necessarily warrant
tooth loss or tooth replacement unless it is severely advanced
periodontitis (loss of gum…
Options for Chipped Front Tooth Restoration
Chipped Tooth Restoration Options
Jan 27, 2014
A chipped tooth can often times be repaired with simple bonding. If the
tooth does not have any decay or pulpal involvement (needing root canal
treatment), the tooth can be cosmetically and conservatively
treated with composite resin (white filling) bonding. This is the
treatment I often recommend to my younger patients who need less
invasive treatment. This type of restoration is less aggressive and does
not require much removing of tooth structure. However, if your tooth is
further…
