I have been a Reviewer and Section Editor of CRANIO: The Journal of CranioMandibular and Sleep Practice for years and the Editor in Chief of CRANIO since 2022. I am the Dental Editor of Sleep and Health Journal.
I have been treating severe TMJ Disorders for the last 45 year utilizing Neuromuscular Dentistry.
In 1985 I became the first dentist in the United States to become an Assistant Professor in the Sleep Disorder Center of Rush Medical School. He was an Assistant Professor at Rush from 1985-1991 and returned from 1998-2001.
I am a founding member (1 of 20) of the Sleep Disorder Dental Society which later became the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, a founding member of DOSA, the Dental Organization for
Sleep apnea.
I have achieved Diplomate Status of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and the Sleep and Breathing Association. I am a Fellow and Master of ICCMO, the International College of Craniomandibular Orthopedics. I have lectured internationally and across the US on Sleep disorders with a focus on Snoring and Sleep Apnea and on treatment of TMJ Disorders.
Dr Shapira utilizes Epigenetic Orthopedics with DNA and MRNA Appliance to grow larger airways and treat/ Sleep Apnea, TMJ Disorders and other issues.
He is currently Editor in Chief of CRANIO Journal the pre-eminent journal on TMJ Disorders and Dental Sleep Medicine and was previously Dental and Craniofacial Section Editor of CRANIO and was a reviewed for 20+ years.
Dr Shapira is President Elect of the American Section of ICCMO.
