I'm a 39 year old female who has lost 135lbs over 2 years. Am I too young for a Facelift?
Facelift after weight loss
Jun 30, 2021
First, congratulations on your weight loss - never an easy undertaking. Facelift surgery isn't strictly limited to addressing the aging process. Significant weight reduction, as in your case, can aggravate skin laxity of the face (as well as other parts of the body). Based on your photos, a facelift should provide significant improvement of your jawline and neck. I would consult with a qualified plastic surgeon!
Best wishes!
Should I get a facelift?
At what age a facelift?
Jun 30, 2021
It is true that people show signs of aging at different rates based on both environmental and genetic influences. Having said that, based on your photos (which is never a substitute for a physical exam) I would advise that surgery would be premature in your case. There are many non-surgical approaches that may be considered to address areas you may be concerned about. I would certainly obtain additional consultations with Board Certified plastic surgeons before embarking on a more...
Is it a reasonable expectation for me to go back to my desk job five days after facelift surgery w
Recovery after facelift surgery
Jun 30, 2021
While there is always some variation of experience, it is not unreasonable to expect that you will be able to return to your desk job at home on a reduced schedule in less than a week. Any after effects from anesthesia (particularly if it was just sedation) should have subsided by then, and there typically isn't much discomfort after the facelift procedure.
Best wishes!
Breast augmentation surgery and Covid Vaccines?
COVID vaccine and breast augmentation
Jun 30, 2021
If your surgery is not scheduled for some time, I would recommend getting the vaccine ASAP. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require a 2nd shot 3-4 weeks later, and this should be taken into consideration in planning. Ideally you want to avoid the injections for at least one week before and one week or more after your procedure. Some people experience chills and a fever (usually for just a day or two) after the vaccine (more often after the second dose), and this could be confusing with...
Is dual plane placement still a possibility if I choose the inframammary fold incision?
Breast augmentation - dual plane and inframammary fold incision
Jun 30, 2021
Dual plane placement indicates that the implants are partially covered by the pectoralis major muscle on top and your breast tissue below. It is readily accomplished from an inframammary fold incision. Your plastic surgeon should review the advantages and disadvantages of both approaches.
Best wishes!
Can I just do implants?
Breast implants
Jun 30, 2021
Judging from your photographs, I believe you would get a very nice result with breast implants alone, avoiding the scars associated with a breast lift. Having said that, there is no substitute for an actual physical exam in making such an assessment. A consultation with a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery should be your next step if you are considering pursuing this further.
Is there a way to lift the breast without moving the nipple?
Breast reduction without nipple removal
Jun 30, 2021
Judging from your photographs, you should do well with a "pedicled" approach to breast reduction, which means that the nipples are left attached to the underlying breast tissue, but shifted up to a more centralized anatomic position. The breast is reduced in size and sculpted around the new nipple position. Partial or total loss of the nipple and areola is fortunately very uncommon, but remains a risk with any technique. Best wishes!
Raised mole under my right eyes. I want to remove it. Is it safe?
Mole removal
Jun 30, 2021
If done by an appropriately credentialed board certified surgeon, this should be a perfectly safe procedure. The scar will ideally be less noticeable than the mole, although it will require a period of "maturation" of weeks to months where it may be more apparent. All such lesions should be analyzed by a pathologist. Best wishes!
Will I still be able to breastfeed if I had a lift and augmentation back in November?
Breastfeeding after lift and augmentation
Jun 30, 2021
Keep in mind that some women have difficulty breastfeeding even if they didn't have surgery. Generally breast augmentation doesn't interfere with the duct system within the breasts. The mastopexy approach may determine to what degree breastfeeding may or may not be an issue. I would suggest you discuss this further with your operating surgeon. Best wishes!
What can be done about this painful, raised scar?
Painful raised scar
Jun 30, 2021
I would advise having another consultation with your surgeon as it appears you would benefit from removal of the scar. It is possible you may have had some cyst recurrence within the scar. You may also have irregular nerve growth within the scar causing the pain and this should be amenable to re-excision. I would suggest that the steroid injections have reached the limit of anything that might be accomplished with that treatment. Best wishes!
Is it recommended to put warm pads to help with swelling after a facelift?
Immediate postoperative care after facelift
Dec 8, 2019
I have my patients use ice packs intermittently (to avoid cold injury) after surgery to help reduce swelling and bruising. Warm pads (or heating pads) can encourage bleeding in the immediate postoperative period and potentially cause burns in numb areas. Your operating surgeon should give you specific advice as to what he or she recommends.
Best wishes!
Is surgery on someone over 60 a waste of time?
Facelift after 60
Dec 8, 2019
People in their 60s and older can experience impressive results from facelift surgery with good longevity. Everyone ages differently based on genetic and environmental factors. We have all seen people in their 70s who look 20 years younger without surgery (and vice versa). A Board Certified Plastic Surgeon will evaluate a patient's facial anatomy and skin quality and provide insight into the effectiveness of the procedure for a given individual.
Is there something my hairdresser could put on my facelift incisions to protect them when coloring
Hair coloring after facelift
Dec 8, 2019
Aquaphor should work fine to protect your incisions after your facelift. Your incisions should be well healed at 9.5 weeks. I generally recommend waiting 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure depending on healing. Best wishes!
How long after a facelift is it safe to color my hair?
How long after a facelift is it safe to color my hair?
Dec 8, 2019
Hair color chemicals can be very irritating to the skin. Depending on the product, they may include ammonia, peroxide, and other organic ingredients with varying degrees of tissue toxicity. Facelift incisions should not be exposed prematurely. I recommend avoidance of hair dyes for about 4 to 6 weeks after surgery depending on healing and ultimately the advice of your operating surgeon. Best wishes!
Worried about being alone day 2. Will that be a problem?
Postoperative care after a facelift
Dec 8, 2019
Although you should be fine after 24 hours, you should at least make arrangements for possible transportation should there be an emergent need, such as delayed bleeding. Having someone available for general care for 48 hours would be best. Your plastic surgeon should give you further guidance on your personal situation. Best wishes!
