How long should aching pain last after crown?
Aching Pain on Crown:
Aug 5, 2017
Hello,
Some post-operative sensitivity is common and normal. It may simply be a question of your bite needing to be adjusted. Sometimes the crown is hitting the opposing teeth earlier than the other teeth. It is also possible that there is excess cement around the margins of the crown, which may cause inflammation and discomfort. Lastly, it is always possible that the tooth has a fracture in it that your dentist and the endodontist were unable to detect. If you…
Veneers are the wrong color: Can they be redone?
Redoing Veneers:
Aug 5, 2017
Hi Maggi,
If you are dissatisfied with the color of your veneers, they may be redone. However, there are times when redoing the veneers means that additional tooth structure will inevitably be removed, in which case, you may need a full-coverage crown instead of a veneer. Veneers will not bond well if too much tooth is removed during preparation/drilling. I hope this helps!
Cheers,
-Miles
I have a temporary crown and from that I got a “pimple” above the tooth and the ref. endodontist wants
Root Canal and Crown:
Jul 14, 2017
The tooth that you were referred for likely has an infection at and around the root tip (which can often be seen on an x-ray). The infection will sometimes presents as a small abscess or “pimple” on the gums and will seep puss and other nasty exudate while it drains. The solution is to have a root canal completed to remove the infected nerve. However, if there is not enough tooth left to place a crown, the recommended treatment may be to extract the tooth and either place…
What can be causing this weird feeling when I press down or chew with a new crown?
Irritating Crown:
Jul 3, 2017
Hello, my name is Miles. I am a prosthodontist.
The issue you are describing may be one of two different things (or both). It may simply be that the crown is too high and requires only a simple in-office adjustment. Alternatively, it may be that the tooth itself has a crack in it – in which case the tooth may need to be extracted if the crack runs deep into the root. Clench your teeth together and release your bite. Pay attention to the sensation. If there…
Is it possible to change the shade of an eMax crown after it’s been made?
Crown Shade:
Jul 1, 2017
Hi Brian, the color of all ceramic crowns are not able to be changed intraorally long-term. There are stains that can be applied and cured with a light – but they are not very predictable, and do not last very long. Your description of the difference you perceive in the shade of the crowns under different lighting situations is a common phenomenon called “metamerism”. Because of this, I always makes sure to look at the crowns in natural lighting, under fluorescent lights and…
Where to start with my smile makeover?
Smile Make Over:
Jul 1, 2017
Within the dental field, there are 9 different types of dentists – most folks do not realize this. Certain situations are best handled by specialists. For you particular case, I would recommend contacting a Prosthodontist. Prosthodontists have 3 years of training beyond dental school and are very adept at handling complex restorative work. Prosthodontists also have extensive training in treatment planning cases and coordinating the efforts for each patient with…
My tooth and crown with the post broke off right at the gum. Is my only option to get the roots taken o
Broken Post + Crown
Jun 30, 2017
Hello! It is always tragic for folks to lose teeth. As dental providers, we often try very hard to retain teeth. Extracting a tooth is the only thing that we do that is permanent. The situation you have described is very common and I encounter this issue often in my practice. 99/100 times in this case, I will recommend that the patient have the remaining tooth root removed, and an implant placed. In your case, if the tooth is extracted, a partial…
