Statement: Dr. Mary Lee Peters, MD is a board-certified plastic surgeon based in Seattle, Washington. Named by her fellow doctors in Seattle Magazine as one of Seattle’s “Top Docs,” Dr. Peters draws patients from all over in search of natural-looking results for everything from facelifts and tummy tucks to breast augmentation and injectables.

“I enjoy helping patients make the choices about physical appearance that enrich their emotional well-being,” she says. “People should feel comfortable in their own bodies.”

Dr. Peters graduated cum laude from The University of Virginia and went on to receive her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia (now part of VCU Medical Center). She completed a surgical internship at Barnes Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri prior to a succession of surgical residencies at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

For her advanced surgical education, she did a two-year fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, as well as a plastic surgery fellowship at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC. This was followed by a private fellowship working in microsurgical techniques in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Peters is a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) and American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

“I am honored that my patients trust my experience to help guide them in these most important decisions,” Dr. Peters says. “They value the professionalism and warmth they receive here, and they know their treatment will be held in the utmost confidence.”

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?
Liposuction for Men
Oct 18, 2021
Thank you for your question and photos. You appear to be young and healthy and to have good skin quality. You can have a very nice change with liposuction of your trunk, which would include your hips, back and upper and lower abdomen. Be certain to choose a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery who is well experienced in body contouring.
Capsulorraphy candidate?
Breast Implant Revision
Oct 18, 2021
Thank you for your photos. Breast are never same with arms fully raised and at your side. This is true whether or not breast implants are present. You appear to have stretch of the breast fold on the right side, which leaves that implant sitting lower on your chest wall than on the left side. A capsulorraphy can restore that fold. You can discuss it with your plastic surgeon.
Does lower abdomen liposuction always have to be paired with upper abdomen liposuction?
Abdominal Liposuction
Oct 18, 2021
Often people carry more fat in their lower abdomen than in their upper abdomen. However, if during liposuction your surgeon only takes away unwanted fat from below, you may look odd if your weight changes. You may find you have too little fat below and a new bulge above the belly button. For most people, it is wise to choose liposuction of upper abdomen and the flanks at the same time as lower abdomen to provide the best contour.
Severe diastasis and thin abdominal wall, what techniques ensure a good result?
Tummy Tuck
Oct 4, 2021
Thanks for the photos. You should have substantial change with a tummy tuck. Repairing your diastasis will give you a batter waistline, correct the roundness of your upper and lower abdomen, give you better core strength and reduce the width of your abdomen on side view. Your belly button should have a more normal appearance following the procedure, and you will be able to remove the stretched skin of the lower abdomen. I strongly encourage your choice. Hope you have a great outcome.
Do I need J Plasma with my lipo?
J Plasma? and Liposuction?
Oct 4, 2021
This sounds suspicious to me. There is no evidence based proof that J plasma injections have any benefit at all except to the surgeon’s pocketbook. I strongly recommend that you get a second or third opinion.
Pre-op tips to avoid wound dehiscence?
Tips for Best Wound Healing
Oct 4, 2021
Studies have shown that increasing protein intake before and after the surgery can make a significant difference in your body’s ability to heal wounds and avoid infections. The recommended dose of protein for wound healing is 90 grams a day, which can be quite a lot for a typical American diet. Generally I recommend that my patients supplement their diet with some protein shakes or powders. Being “strong for surgery” means that all of your health vulnerabilities have been examined and…
Am I good candidate for a Mini-facelift or a mid-facelift?
Choice of Facelift Procedures
Oct 4, 2021
It can be confusing when trying to choose the best facelift procedure for yourself, primarily because plastic surgeons vary with the names used for facial surgery. Your pictures show that you could have a very good outcome with a full facelift. Advantages you have include what appeasers to be healthy skin, well-defined bone structure that can show change well. A mini facelift is likely to be very disappointing to you because it does little to remove the extra skin from your neck. A full…
Would I be a bad candidate for just lipo?
Liposuction
Sep 13, 2021
Waiting to have a tummy tuck until after you have completed your family is wise thinking. If you would like to improve your shape in the meantime, liposuction can sculpt your body where your body wants to store its extra fat. You might also commit to a 10 – 15 pound weight loss for optimal outcome. This can improve both shape and energy. Good luck.
Do I have severe tuberous breasts?
Breast Asymmetry and Mastopexy
Sep 13, 2021
Thanks for your photos and question. Although you breasts appear to be a little different on the two sides, they are not classically tuberous. Tuberous breasts tend to have a high fold at the base, loss of volume in the lower pole of the breasts and a constricting band around the circumference of the areola. With a mastopexy (breast lift), your breasts can be made to match more in size and shape, and you can have a really nice outcome. You do not need to have breasts implants, particular…
Do I need a tummy tuck, just lipo or lipo with skin excision?
Abdominoplasty or Liposuction
Sep 13, 2021
There is no single right answer to the question your pose. You can have a very good outcome with several choices. After liposuction, it may take a year to see how much skin shrinkage is possible. If you are not fully happy with your skin’s response, at that time you can go forward with either a full tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck. On the other hand if you want to do the maximum and prefer not to wait, liposuction and tummy tuck can be done at the same time. This is likely to improve…
Grams, Cups, Percents, Oh My! (I need help determining how many grams I want removed, any suggestio
Tissue Removal at Breast Reduction
May 3, 2021
Thank you for your photos and questions. The weight of tissue removal at the time of your breast reduction is not something that you are able to determine for yourself. It takes much training and experience for your plastic surgeon to make those kinds of choices in your behalf. If you are using insurance, your policy will determine a minimum amount of grams that your surgeon is required to remove for coverage. Communicate your goals with your surgeon. I often find it helpful when…
Wanting breast augmentation; do I need my areolas reduced?
Areola Reduction with Breast Augmentation
May 3, 2021
If you are unhappy with the size of your areola, it is likely to get larger with a breast augmentation. There is more than one technique to reduce the diameter of the pigmented skin around your nipple (called the areola). Excess skin can be taken at the base of the nipple, which is referred to as an “intra-areolar lift”. This can leave a less noticeable scar. It is more common for plastic surgeons to place the scar around the outside of the areola, as this allows removal of more skin…
My breasts sag, but do I have tubular breasts?
Tubular Breasts
May 3, 2021
Thank you for your picture. Your breasts are quite normal and do not have tubular characteristics. Tubular breasts have a high and tight fold at the base. There is a tightness that creates a constructing ring around the areola resulting in puffiness, and their shape is more elongated than wide. If you want a change in the appearance of your breasts, you might benefit from a breast lift. You may also choose an implant if you want a larger size.
Please give information on technique and incision type for me to add volume?
Breast Augmentation and Mastopexy
Apr 5, 2021
Thank you for your question and photo. My advice is to pick an implant size that meets your goals and suits your body before deciding the best type of breast lift. Most likely you will need either a lollipop or anchor pattern scar for skin tightening and reshaping. However I cannot determine that from photos alone. In general I think that it is a unwise to pick an implant simply to fill up loose skin. This often leads to an unnatural look that deteriorates over time.
Do you recommend 215 cc vs 240cc for subtle natural look?
How to Pick the Right Implant Size for You
Apr 5, 2021
Implant sizing is more nuanced than most people recognize. There are subtle factors of breast volume, skin elasticity, chest wall shape and differences between the two breasts that factor into decision making. There are also huge variations in implant characteristics available on the market. I strongly recommend that my patients not get “anchored” on a certain implant size or style before conferring with me at length. Pick a surgeon you can trust rather than implant of a specific size,…
