Should I replace my 30-year-old bridge with dental implant ?
The bone loss has already occurred.
Sep 22, 2019
If you've had the bridge in place for 30 years, the bone loss has already taken place. While it can continue over time, it more than likely will not change more at this point. Because you can feel the defect or missing bone with your finger, a bone graft is probably needed to make the implant successful. I usually tell patients to leave well enough alone and wait to make the decision until the bridge needs to be replaced. If the bridge is in excellent condition, do...
I am a 51 year old Female.Looking for an opinion on shortening my BIG front teeth. Advice?
Ortho consult recommended
Sep 9, 2019
Your smile appears very narrow in this shot, making your front teeth look even more prominent. An orthodontist can help align teeth and broaden your smile while being conservative. Sometimes when the teeth are properly positioned, you will see an improvement with the recession, although this is not always the case. Visit an orthodontist to see what can be done to improve your smile.
My tooth broke tonight while eating dinner, will I need an implant?
You have options.
Sep 6, 2019
Based on the photo, you do have some remaining tooth structure, giving your dentist the option to attempt and save the tooth. It will more than likely require a post to support the crown and hopefully prevent this from happening again anytime soon. A radiograph is needed to determine if there are further issues with the tooth. If the tooth needs to be removed, then an implant is your next best option. A CT scan is needed to determine if your bone will support an...
Should I have my teeth pulled prior to getting screws in for permanent top denture?
A consult is needed
Sep 6, 2019
In most cases, the teeth are pulled before implants are placed. Occasionally, we will stagger extractions and implant placement so that we have something to support the denture. This is why a consult is needed. But in general, the teeth are removed, a denture is placed, and then the implants are placed.
How to fix gummy smile and distorted lower lip/jaw?
Multi specialty approach required
Aug 11, 2019
Your photos appear to show that you maxilla (or top jaw) is forward and you probably have a hypermobile lip (meaning your lip moves higher than normal). This is both a skeletal issue as well as muscular. Orthodontists are the dental specialists who determine if jaw surgery is required to fix your gummy smile. If you want to rule out jaw surgery, there are other options.
First, Botox can be used to limit the movement of your top lip. It is not a permanent...
What do I need done to have a perfect smile?
Schedule a consultation
Aug 10, 2019
Based on your photo, I can tell a few things. First, if you are biting down in this picture, then you absolutely have an open bite. Before any major restorative work, please get a consultation with an orthodontist. They can tell you your options for correcting it.
Next, you need to be evaluated for cavities. The gap can be closed with crowns or veneers, but the extent of the cavities need to be determined first. Overall, you want to make sure that...
How long can a tooth capped stay on?
This is not easy to predict.
Aug 10, 2019
The dental literature shows that a very good crown has the average lifespan of 7-10 years, with excellent ones lasting even longer. I see patients all the time with crowns that last 30 years or more. A dentists checks for issues with the crown when you get your regular dental exams. They look for leakage or possible cavities under the crown as well as breakage. If your dentist can't see anything wrong with the crown and you approve of the esthetics, you are in good shape!
