Breast implant life span
Breast implants, like all man made creations are NOT permanent. They ALL eventually fail (IE cars, roofs, etc) In the case of breast implants, the silicone shell around either the silicone gel filled OR the saline filled implants, folds and unfolds thousands of times.
Eventually, this folding / unfolding creates a weak spot which leaks and the implant deflates. This can be seen the day after surgery (manufacturer’s defect) or over 20 years after surgery. Either way – both implant producers in the US have a lifetime warranty on their implants.
If you can prove you had their implants, they will provide you with a free pair for life. Do you know of any other company that does this?.
Breast lift
If you want to be smaller, then implants would not be the answer. A lift would probably be a good solution for your concerns.
Gels usually look and feel more natural
In my experience, the silicone gels give a superior look and feel and the overwhelming majority of my patients prefer silicone implants. You can achieve a very nice result with saline implants, but if you’re thin (and sometimes even if you’re not) you will probably feel or see some rippling of the implant, and this can worsen over the years.
Placing the implant under the muscle may protect against this a little bit, but it is no guarantee of a natural look and feel. Sit down with your surgeon so he or she can over with you in detail the advantages and disadvantages of both options, including incision size, how to monitor the implants after surgery, etc.
This will allow you to make the choice that us right for you, Dr. S .
A lift may be required with implants to prevent the “double bubble” look
You may want to consider a lift with your augmentation. The “double bubble” look may occur when the implants are placed and the breast tissue then falls over the implant creating excess skin at the lower portion of the breast.
Therefore, lifting the breast tissue can help prevent this look. For the type of lift that you may need, consult with your plastic surgeon as there are several different types.
Need a lift
I don’t think there’s any way that this would look acceptable without a lift. In my opinion, only a vertical type lift which necessitates a scar from the bottom of the areola to the inframammary crease would move the breast mound up enough to line it up with the implant that would be placed partially under the muscle.
A board-certified plastic surgeon might be able to help you decide on the correct treatment course and I would recommend that you be open to different sizes based on their experience.
Breast Implants – Do I Need A Lift, or Will I Be Happy With Implants Alone?
Sometimes there is no correct answer, and this is one of those times. NOBODY wants the scars of a lift but there are times that you really need them in order to get an improvement.
Often you can get by with implants alone so that it isn’t even an issue. After three kids, though, you clearly have some extra skin on your breasts and the question is what to do with it.
One choice is to do a formal lift; that will give you tighter skin and will lift the breasts – but you’ll have scars. The other choice is simply to go with implants – you’ll probably need them to be slightly larger than you’d really like but, increasingly, women are going for this option.
They’re – perhaps – a bit bigger than they’d like, but they get by without the larger procedure and the additional scars. That’s probably what I would advise for you. I think you’ll be happy with the larger size AND the absence of breast lift scars.
You would always have the option at some point in the future to do the lift, but once you have the scars, you can’t remove them.
I am two weeks post BA. Right breast feels much different, could I be in the early stages of capsular contracture?
It is always best to address post-op questions with your operating surgeon- be examined post-op by him. Generally speaking, at 2 weeks you’re still healing– give it more time, follow your post-op instructions– and stay in touch with your surgeon.
Implant placement
Yes you can. The Surgeon has to close the old muscle pocket, so that the implant does not slip back to the old pocket from the subglandular position. Always consult wirh a Board Certifief Plastic Surgeon.
After 1 month you should be able to do low impact cardio. At 2 months you should be running. If there is no particular discomfort with running, you should be able to do whatever you want once the surgery has been allowed to heal.
Gel Cohesive implants are great, but not much different than what is available in US
Gel cohesive implants are basically the same as the FDA approved implants which are on the market but the gel is a bit denser. I am a study investigator for these implants. The results are great but not enough different than the ones you can get here in the US.
The most important thing is to be sure that when you have the implants placed the results by the surgeon are what you would like, There are many considerations with implants that are more important- is the technique going to minimize your risk for infection (infection will cause you to have an increased risk for implant infection, possible need for implant removal and potential for recurrent infections).
You need to be sure that the incision is in a place that you can appreciate (we use a nearly scarless technique). Some scars such as the infra-mammary incisions are visible for life. Other considerations are implant shape, texturing, placement (inframammary vs.below the muscle). Understanding your options and making an educated decision is the best thing for you. Traveling to another country for an implant which is essentially minimally different than what is FDA approved is unlikely going to the be the element which will make your surgery a success or a failure.
I recommend you look into the many options and the safety issues and base your decision on this.
Post operative bra
Every surgeons has different views. I ask for a post surgical bra for six weeks twenty-four hours a day if implants are above the muscle. If implants are submuscular 4 weeks sport bra and two weeks breast band to help the implants to drop.
Follow your surgeon recommendations
No additional precautions
There are no precautions that need to be taken with breast implants at altitude in a pressurized commercial aircraft.
Possibly larger, definitely different!
You are still quite swollen after only 4 days. The healing process always has a psychological affect on patients. As your body adjusts post-operatively to the placement of the implants and your lift, your mind will also adjust to your new body image.
During this time you will become more comfortable as the pain wears off, the swelling decreases, and they begin to feel like they have always been there. BUT once this happens and the implants settle, you will begin to notice that they appear to be getting smaller, while mentally you have adjusted to the size when they were higher and swollen.
As they drop down and move away from your face, it almost feels as if they’re shrinking! THEY AREN’T. They are simply assuming their more natural position. Also, breast lift patients always feel smaller as the length of their breasts have shortened and often their areolas reduced.
Give yourself at least 3 months, go to your follow ups and follow all post-op directions given to you by your surgeon and staff. 450cc’s are no small implants, so you should see your full C
Pregnancy and breast implants
Pregnancy (and subsequent breastfeeding) can have somewhat unpredictable effects upon your breasts, regardless of the presence of a new implant. You can certainly expect some enlargement of the breasts, followed by some deflation. The implant may counteract some of the deflation effect, but it is indeed possible that more “sag” may result, and that you may want to seek a revision in the future.
A periareolar lift will not help your particular breast shape
A periareolar lift will not leave you with tight , perky breasts. As a matter of fact, i am not sure any surgery will leave you with tight, perky breasts. There is too much of your breast tissue that is lax and your general skin tone is also lax.
So do not expect tight breasts or you will be disappointed.
