Should a lift and removal be done at the same time or not?
Simultaneous breast implant removal and breast lift
Oct 22, 2019
Thank you for your question.  It can be difficult to anticipate what the shape of your breast will be like once implants have been removed.  This certainly can be made more difficult if the breast implants have been in place for a long time or if there are issues such as severe capsular contracture or implant rupture. In my experience, for most people it is possible to remove the implants and do the breast lift at the same time.  I understand that some surgeon's preferred to do this in tw...
Would 4 days be enough time off work? I work at a quarry.
Give yourself enough time to recover.
Mar 1, 2018
I always advise patients to plan for more time off work than they think they will need. If you recover quicker, then you can always return sooner than you'd planned, but you won't be stressed if you're not ready. Typically patients take about a week off work, depending on whether the implants are placed above or below the muscle. Your surgeon will be your best guide. Here's our recovery EBook The Plastic Surgery Planner which has more information about recovering from surgery. All the best.
What is the average price for the hospital fees for a breast augmentation?
Pricing Varies By Region
Mar 1, 2018
When you are thinking about elective cosmetic surgery, one of your considerations will always be the cost of the surgery. Sometimes only the surgeon’s fees are listed, and not other costs such as anesthesia or operating room expenses. You're right to ask about them. Those are the hidden costs that could jump up to bite you later on. That's why we publish all of our surgery prices on our website. I've attached a link for you below. This should give you a good idea of what the prices are he...
How Long is Breast Implants Recovery Time?
A Week Is About Right To Recover From Breast Augmentation
Dec 20, 2017
Most people are able to recover and return to work within a week of breast augmentation. However, with you job as a Physical Education teacher you may need a bit longer, or will need to modify your activity when you return. Most women look better with implants placed beneath the chest muscle. However, for those who are candidates for the implants to be placed above the muscle, the recovery can be a bit shorter.
But I don’t think that you recovery time will preclude you from having this s...
Mini or full tummy tuck? I do have loose skin both above and below the belly button as you can see w
Full versus Mini-Abdominoplasty
Nov 30, 2017
Your question is a very common question. And, the information you have given allows us to give you a definitive answer. If you have skin looseness or excess above the belly button, this can only be addressed with a full tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. So if you are trying to correct this, you will be very disappointed in the results of a mini-abdominoplasty. I have had the opportunity to revise several patients, converting them from a mini tummy tuck to a full tummy tuck because or ...
Why do surgeons feel so comfortable combining breast lift and tummy tuck surgery?
Combining tummy tucks and breast lifts
Nov 30, 2017
Thank you for your question and your concerns. Physician fatigue is an issue that we all must come to grips with and the older I am, the more I think about this. That said, combining a tummy tuck and breast lift in most people is well within a range of what most plastic surgeons can comfortably do. For me, this usually take about 4 hours, sometimes a little more. There is great benefit to you in having these done together if this is your desire. Your recovery will be all about your tummy tuck...
Follow-up question: Why does my stomach split in the middle?
Rectus diastasis
Nov 30, 2017
Thanks for your  question. I assume that you have had children and are experiencing change in your abdominal wall since then. The split as you describe it is a separation in the rectus abdominis muscles, the sit up muscles, if you will. In order to make room for the gravid uterus (that would be your baby), the abdominal wall must stretch. And the place where this happens is between these muscles. This is know as a diastasis recti. This can only be treated with a tummy tuck. In terms of  you...
I have diastasis recti after my second pregnancy. Are there good options available besides a full tu
Repair of rectus diastasisT
Nov 30, 2017
Thank you for your email. It sounds like you have a significant rectus diastasis. As you may know this is a stretching of the fascia or connective tissue between the rectus abdominis muscles. It's more or less a seam between the muscles that has widened. The only treatment of this is to directly repair it. Nothing else will work.  If this was an issue with muscle strength or conditioning, it might be improved with exercise. But it is not.You concerns regarding the scar are valid. However a s...
Is a drainless tummy tuck as safe as a TT with a drain in?
Safety of drainless tummy tuck
Nov 29, 2017
This is an excellent question, and I thank you for asking it. In a word, yes. There appears to be no real difference in safety in a tummy tuck whether drains are used, or not used. The technique is a bit different and I really see no reason to use drains in most tummy tucks. It allows you to move about better, and earlier. Overall, I think you will have a better experience and possibly a better result without drains. All the best,David B. Reath, MD
What is the best procedure to have after massive weight loss, a mini or full tummy tuck?
Tummy tuck after weight loss.
Nov 29, 2017
Thank you for your question and for including some photos. (These were a little dark, but I think I understand your concerns,)Even without seeing  you I would think that after a 100 lbs. weight loss, you will need a full tummy tuck. Usually there is enough skin excess after massive weight loss to warrant this. If there is only a bit of skin looseness in the lower abdomen, below the belly button, a mini-abdominoplasty may suffice. In all other cases you will need a least a full a...
When can I start my abdominal exercise after tummy tuck and liposuction surgery?
Exercise after tummy tuck
Nov 29, 2017
Thanks for your question. Ideally you should ask this of the surgeon who performed your surgery. But I can tell you what I advise my patients who have had a tummy tuck. The real issue regarding exercise has to do with the repair the rectus diastasis, the muscle repair. I want there to be enough build up of collagen in this repair such that it will be strong enough to not have to rely on the sutures that were used for the repair before you start to exercise. So at about 6 weeks after ...
Am I a good candidate for breast augmentation? What kind of results can I expect?
Candidate for breast augmentation
Nov 29, 2017
Thank you for your question. From your photos, it looks like you would be an excellent candidate for breast augmentation. You have some existing breast tissue of your own which will always give you a more natural looking result. You appear to have a bit of a narrow chest wall which will impact, to a degree, the size of implants you can use. Generally you will be able to achieve a good look with a smaller implant than someone who has a very wide chest. But you look fit, and have a great shape...
I had implants placed in 2007 and they seem to have distorted in so many years. Can I replace them?
Breast implant revision
Nov 29, 2017
Thanks for your question. No one can give you a definitive answer without seeing you and understand what you had done 10 years ago. However, having a revision within ten years of your surgery is not uncommon and is certainly something that can be done. If you breasts have some firmness this could be causing the distortion due to scar tissue around the implants which is known as a capsular contracture. This can be addressed at the time of your revision. But, to specifically answer our...
Is it better to get CoolSculpting when thin or heavy?
CoolSculpting works best when you are close to your ideal weight.
Aug 28, 2017
CoolSculpting works best when you are close to your ideal weight, and you have areas of fat that are out of proportion to the rest of your body. You will see about a 20 % reduction in the areas that are treated. But CoolSculpting is not a method of weight reduction. How effective CoolSculpting will be on any area has to do with the nature and amount of fat in these areas. When the applicator is attached, suction draws the area being treated into the head of the applicator. There must be e...
How do I find surgeons that specialize in breast related procedures other than pure word of mouth?
Finding the best breast lift surgeon for you.
Aug 28, 2017
Dear JDuffy,The issue here is finding the best surgeon for you. Anyone you are considering should be board certified by the  American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. You want your surgeon to be skilled, but you also want someone you feel comfortable with ( and this goes for the office staff as well). Word of mouth is a good way to begin. But there is also a lot of information available on the internet such as reviews, registries and p...
