Dr. Desai is committed to international service and caring for the underprivileged. Though he initially intended to become a neurosurgeon, his experiences in China treating children born with congenital malformations, like cleft lips and cleft palates, led him to the field of plastic surgery. He has also treated children in Haiti and Thailand, and volunteered at a leprosy camp in India.
