Breast implants for all ages
This is a wonderful myth-buster, yes, breast implants have a role in all ages.
Early in my practice I learned that breast augmentation and breast implants were not just of interest in the 20 somethings, and in fact the majority of patients seeking breast implants were women that were in their 30-40’s and had one or more children.
As we have changed the concept of looking well and growing older I now have many patients in their 50’s who undergo breast augmentation for the first time. I have one more myth concerning breast implants that I can put to rest.
Women who have worn breast implants will continue to do so their entire life. As women age they do not remove their breast implants later in life. They do not ‘out grow’ them. I have had patients into their 80’s who have come in with a worn out implant, saline and gel, and yes, all have the implants replaced, not removed.
Why do women in their 80’s continue to have breast implants? Because they contribute to their lives in positive ways. You are definitely not too old.
Breast Lift or Dual Plane Augmentation
it appears that you would get a better result if you had a combined breast lift with augmentation. It also appears likely that it could be done using a peri-areolar technique so that the only scar would be around the edge of the areola of the nipple.
Implants alone cannot lift the breast up and the temptation would be to use too large of an implant to fill out all of the loose skin. The end result would be that you would have even more sagging.
May be big but hard to tell
560cc may be on the larger side but it is impossible to tell without photographs, chest wall measurement or an exam. The best way to tell is if you are able to get digital imagining during your consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon where you will be able to get a virtual simulation of what you would look like with different sized implants.
This way you can decide what you would look like after surgery with almost 95% accuracy.
Don’t get in a hurry when comes to shopping for new bras
Many patients can hardly wait to go bra shopping after their breast augmentation. Each plastic surgeon has his/her own set of recommendations based on their experience, training, etc. The risk of wearing an overly supportive bra too early is that it may prevent the implants from settling correctly.
For some patients it can take 3-6 months for their implants to settle especially if the implants are placed under the muscle. I usually let my patients wear regular bras by three months if the position of the implants is appropriate.
As always it is best for patients to discuss this common question with their plastic surgeon during one of the early post op visits.
450 cc should do it!
At 5’2″ and 110 pounds, I would characterize you as petite. I think 450 to 500 cc will get you beyond the full C/small D range and into the large D range. It is true that you lose a bit of volume from the sizer in your bra to the implant under the muscle but not that much.
Without the benefit of an exam or photos, I guessing 400 cc will get you to thee C/D range.
Incision question
If your areola is large enough that the surgeon can put a 425/450 cc implant through an incision there then that is certainly doable. I like the periareolar incision. I think it leaves the least conspicuous scar for a silicone gel implant.
I have only had a few patients in my career who did not have a large enough areola to accommodate this approach.
Is it possible to get a natural, sloped breast shape with round implants
Yes, an experienced Plastic surgeon will know how to do this. By properly selecting the patient and performing the right techniques this can be achieved. I myself prefer round implants over shaped implants because they give me more options to get that natural result.
Worried about size
it sounds like you established a good rapport with you surgeon and trust his judgement. You have already tried on sizers and like the size he recommended. I don’t think it will be possible to add to your decision making process based on a description, but I hope you get a great result!.
Implant Blues
In almost every case swelling is due to the body’s response to the surgery itself and only time, patience and compliance with one’s surgeon’s post-operative instructions will result in resolution. The best option when questions arise post-operatively is to call your own surgeon.
Have him or her evaluate you and address your concerns as only they know exactly what was done during surgery as well as what your discussions, concerns and expectations were before surgery. Having another surgeon, who knows none of this, address these questions is unfair to your own surgeon and may provide you with misinformation that will yield more confusion and concern and potentially strain the relationship with your own surgeon.
If the addition of 50 cc’s is at no fee than try . i doubt there will be any changes. But if you have to pay why not use a new implant that is larger. Just my thoughts.
Breast implants
I think most surgeons will place the implant under the myself, but you will get mixed recommendations for saline versus silicone. I personally prefer saline because they have a lower incidence of long term problems like capsular contracture and detected leakage.
