Keeping it simple There are many types of bone grafting material available today. The major types include: Autografts(ones own bone), Allografts (human source), Xenografts( animal source), Synthetic (engineered). Autografts are the best from a compatibility standpoint. Bone grafting will last a long time. However, 5 yrs. maybe too long to assume all the bone is still present. Have the site evaluated to see how much bone is available. If there is, an implant can be your best choice. Once implant is placed, the bone should remain. An Implant will help you avoid having the natural teeth on either side ground down for a bridge.

Whether or not you have a one or an 11 unit bridge, the gums should not look like this 7 weeks post op. It looks as if the bridge has not been fitted very well. As a result the gums are able to heal/ tighten up.
