Breast implants, either saline or silicone, will certainly enlarge your breasts but will not correct for mild asymmetries unless a form of breast lift is also performed. Best to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon that can show you with their before and after photos as well as 3D computer analysis and simulation what you can expect.

Only reoperate or replace breast implants if necessary

Breast implants are designed to last a long time and frequently women will never need another operation. There certainly is no “expiration date” and no need to replace them after a certain amount of time if they are not causeing any problems.

Having said that we do advise women that there is the possibility that reoperation or replacement would be needed if there was a leak that develops. The older the implant gets the more likely a leak will occur.

For women having implants when they are 20 years old chances are that at some point in their lifetime another surgery for replacement of a leaked implant would be needed. But there is no specific time period that the implants need to be replaced.

650 cc implants – big enough or too big?

Moderate profile implants are made to not look unnatural or buldgy. If the base width fits yours, they probably won’t look too big even though they sound large because of the cc’s.

Breast augmentation question

Most patients will opt for silicone. More natural feel, less visible rippling. Some may prefer saline for the slightly smaller incision. In clothes, the difference is minimal.
I would make sure your MD has given you his clear reasons for picking one over the other. Your before pics look like you have enough breast tissue to cover the implant and that is perhaps why your md has picked that type of implant.

You should make sure your PS understands your concerns BEFORE having surgery. It’s your breasts, you have to live with the result, so make sure your voice is heard! As always it is best to be healthy, no smoking, and to make sure any health care concerns you have are managed by your primary care doctor.

Breast Implants Under the Muscle Through A Nipple Incision

The simple answer to your question is, “Yes.” However, if you have a very small areola, then this may not be the best incision choice. A consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon, hopefully one who is a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery(ASAPS), will help guide you in your choices.
Lift/BBA vs. BBA alone after pregnancy/wt loss

and photos. I think will be very disappointed in the shape of your breasts if you go with implants alone. Your breasts will appear to be falling off of your implants. You truly need both a lift and implants to restore your breast shape and to restore your pre-pregnancy breast volume.

I would wait until you could afford to do what you need rather than to do what you can afford. As an alternative, you could just do the lift now and the implants later.

Breast implants

Since the breast implants are placed under breast tissue, one can breast feed without much concern. So the presence of implants will not cause less, or no, milk production.
Breast implants may feel like rocks on the chest

All implants are foreign bodies and a capsule will form around the implant, saline or silicone. Sometimes patients develop capsular contractures (tightening of the capsule); this is the scar that develops around the implant, and this is what makes the implants feel hard.

It is not clear what causes this problem but it occurs in at least 6% of patients to some degree. Sometimes it is painful and sometimes not, most of the time it will cause a deformity of the involved breast, and sometimes it is only on one side.

To correct this problem, surgery is frequently needed.

Breast MRI’s every 2 years will detect a silent rupture.

The important point is that silicone does not cause any diseases. If you have a “leaking” implant in your breast for a couple of years, it will not harm you. It’s just a local problem, and the implant is replaced.
It is true that, typically, you would not find out an implant was leaking until sometime later {when you had the MRI). The breast usually looks and feels the same. The new silicone is very cohesive (sticky) and it does not leak in the conventional sense.

It stays in the same place. My best estimate of the incidence of rupture, based on a huge amount of scientific literature, is 1% per year. So if you have an implant for 20 years, the risk should be about 20%.

I think the risk of leaking increases as the implant gets older. So it is quite possible that you will need to have the implants replaced at some time in the future, which of course involves another operation.

But, remember, this will not affect your health. There is a general misconception floating out there that implants always need to be replaced every 10 years. I don’t know how this got started, but it is quite widespread.
It is absolutely not true.

Breast implant size

It is likely that an implant significantly larger than 377cc will give a more unnatural result. Choosing a larger implant may place you at a higher risk for long term capsular contracture and poor result.

The difference between 350 and 377cc is very small- on the order of 0.1-0.2mm of projection. In terms of deciding on a bra, I generally recommend a supportive cotton-padded sports bra that clips in the front.

Breast Augmentation With or Without Implants

I think that either imaging or showing your plastic surgeon a photo of your “want to be” breast will allow your surgeon to guide you in the decision between breast implants including size and shape/profile vs fat transfer.

Sudden change in breast size on one side

If you have recently noticed a change in your breast size you should be examined by a general surgeon or your OB-GYN. It is not abnormal to have breasts of different sizes but a sudden change may be medically significant.

At your age you have most likely never had a mammogram so this may be the first step in working up the problem.

Cancel surgery?

In the photos, treatment with just a breast implant may not give you an ideal cosmetic result. Agree that you probably need a lift, too. With that being said, trust your instincts. Would recommend seeing another plastic surgeon in your area for a second opinion.

Tear Drop versus Round Breast Implants

The perfect breast implant style selection is largely determined by the patients anatomy at the time of consultation. For some patients, anatomical shaped implants work well but I find in practice that for a majority of women seeking a breast augmentation that smooth, round breast implants work the best.
In short, there are pros and cons to both options and having not conducted a physical examination, it is hard to make a true style recommendation. Since you are debating back and forth between tear drop shaped implants and smooth, round implants, I would highly recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon who has experience working with breast implants of all styles.

You might also consider bringing some photographs of what “look” you are hoping to achieve from your breast augmentation procedure to your consultation to help guide this discussion.

Implant Type

It really depends on the size ,shape and laxity of your breast. The different shaped implants do different things to alter the shape of your breats.

The differences produced depend in part on your present anatomy. Computer modeling is useful because it will give you an idea of the final result.
