What are the pros/cons of a mini vs full tummy tuck? I am almost 40, I'm done having kids and want to im
Mini vs Full TT?
Sep 11, 2018
Hi babsy71, thanks for the great question. There are many different types/names/etc for tummy tucks. Don't get bogged down in all of those details initially. The answer ultimately depends on a thorough discussion and exam with your plastic surgeon. The decision as to which is best for a specific patient completely depends on how much excess skin and laxity you have in the upper abdomen above your belly button, how much excess/loose skin you have on your lower abdomen, if you have stretch ...
Can a person with sickle cell trait have a tummy tuck with lipo?
Cosmetic Surgery with Sickle Cell Trait?
Sep 11, 2018
Hi gospel7826, thanks for the great question. In general, patients with sickle cell trait can safely undergo elective cosmetic surgical procedures, especially when they're overall healthy and have no history of sickle problems previously. In my practice I would definitely require clearance from your hematologist before proceeding with surgery, but assuming that all of your pre-operative lab work and clearance are in order, you would likely be a safe candidate. However, since every patient ...
I believe I have Lipoma on my let temple —would it difficult to remove?
Lipoma/mass on forehead
Sep 11, 2018
Hi Texas1950, thanks for the question. It's tough to say for certain without an in person exam or at least pictures, but in general forehead lipomas can easily be removed through a remote incision hidden within your hair so it's not visible. I suggest you consult with a local Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for an in person exam and to see what will be the best surgical option for you. Best of luck!
Epinephrine during breast lift surgery: how does this work in preventing blood loss?
Epinephrine with breast augmentation...
Mar 5, 2018
Hi and thanks for the great question. Epinephrine is the same as adrenaline which your body produces during the "fight or flight"/startle response, and one of it's many effects it to directly cause contraction and a clamping down of the blood vessels thus decreasing the amount of bleeding during a procedure. It is often used in conjunction with local anesthetic for all types of breast, body and facial surgery to minimize the amount of blood loss during surgery. Since the breast are gl...
I posted before but bad pics. Are my breasts tuberous or just awkward and odd?
Tuberous breasts?
Mar 5, 2018
Hi and thanks for your question. Based on your photos you do appear to have tuberous breasts given the high restricted lower breast fold, large herniated nipple/areola and elongated tubular shape of your breasts. You're a great candidate for augmentation along with lowering the breast fold, expanding the overall skin envelope dimensions and nipple/areola reduction to give a more natural appearing breast shape. It's important that you meet with a board certified plastic surgeon for a t...
What is the typical pain medication prescribed after breast augmentation?
Pain rx's for breast augmentation
Mar 5, 2018
Thanks so much for your question. What you were given definitely seems inadequate. In my practice I typically give 30 hydrocodone or oxycodone for acute pain relief along with 20 valium to help relax muscle spasm when the implants are placed under the muscle using the dual plane technique. Unless you have an extremely high pain tolerance, are getting the implants placed on top of the muscle, and/or having expired injected for intercostal nerve blocks, I suggest you speak with your surgeon a...
Possibly grade 1/2 ptosis on one breast. Is augmentation only a possibility?
Breast aug vs Aug+lift?
Mar 5, 2018
Thanks for your question. It's difficult to say definitively with meeting you for an in person exam and consultation, but based on analysis of your photographs given your amount of ptosis now, significant upper breast deflation and possible loss of skin elasticity, you will likely get a better longer lasting result with combined breast augmentation and lift. Either way is definitely possible, however the outcome and longevity will differ. There are many factors to consider when deciding how ...
Myomectomy + liposuction. I will be having da Vinci surgery to remove fibroids. Is it be possible to get
Lipo along with robotic surgery?
Mar 5, 2018
Liposuction is absolutely a possibility combined with robotic daVinci gyn surgery, and is actually a very common combination procedure performed. I suggest you speak to your Gyn surgeon to make sure they are comfortable with adding liposuction to the procedure since elective surgeries really shouldn't be combined if over 7-8hrs total. Given that you'll already be recovering from the myomectomy, combination procedures are a great opportunity to economically and conveniently combine and m...
Scar healing: Silagen vs Embrace Scar therapy. Which is better?
Embrace vs Silagen
Mar 2, 2018
Thanks for the great question. I feel there is a lot of confusion and misinformation abounding about how to optimize scar appearance. By far the most important factor determining how scars ultimately appear when mature is unfortunately predetermined by your individual genetics. Since there’s nothing you can do about your preset scarring propensity, there are fortunately things that your plastic surgeon and you can do to help optimize the ultimate appearance.
On your surgeon’s end, using m...
Are there any doctors that will do a tummy tuck or liposuction if the person has a high BMI?
High BMI cosmetic surgery?
Feb 28, 2018
Unfortunately in today’s day and age you can find anyone to do anything you want for the right price. Cosmetic surgery is no exception. For this reason it’s vital that you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who has undergone years of dedicated cosmetic training and two years of written and oral testing ensuring only the best, most qualified and safest of surgeons in person for a thorough history and exam to determine your risk profile for surgery. Best of luck!
Am I a good candidate for a medial thigh Lift with lipo? Is having lipo performed during the same proced
Medial thigh lift +/- liposuction?
Feb 28, 2018
Thanks for the question and very thorough photos. Based on these, you definitely appear to have excess loose skin of the upper medial thighs which is very common after bariatric surgery and weight loss, as well as some excess fatty tissue there as well. You’re a great candidate for medial thigh lift with combined liposuction. It’s absolu safe to combine the two procedures and in my practice that’s the standard.
It’s impossible to say without examining you in person but you look like you ...
Will lipo or tummy tuck be best for me? I've also heard of Lipo 360 and CoolSculpting, what will give th
Lipo vs tummy tuck?
Feb 28, 2018
Thanks for the great question latrecia83. Based on your photos let me first say that you have a fantastic figure. It appears that you have some excess fatty tissue below your belly button as well as some skin laxity and scar tethering from a possible C section scar above the pubis. Based on your photos you appear to be a fantastic candidate for liposuction of the abdomen and flanks combined with a short scar umbilical float tummy tuck to tighten the entire abdominal wall (like an internal...
Is there a way to make eyes less hooded?
Fix eyelid hooding
Feb 28, 2018
Thanks for the question lilacmegan. It’s impossible to say without at least looking at photos, but it sounds like you could definitely benefit from an upper blepharoplasty. This is a simple procedure that can be done with light sedation and local injected anesthetic and would allow the excess skin (and fat if needed) to be excised while hiding the scar in the natural upper lid fold making it imperceptible after several months.
I suggest you meet in person with a board certified plastic sur...
Will fat removal during blepharoplasty improve the appearance of my heavy upper eye?
Heavy/tired eyes
Feb 28, 2018
Thanks for the great question. Although it’s tough to say just from the three pics/views you shared, it does look like you have some excess fat in your middle and lateral upper eye compartments as well as possible lacrimal gland malposition which is contributing to the fullness in the middle and laterally. Additionally you appear to have excess redundant skin of the upper lids especially laterally. It’s important that you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to get an in pers...
Rogaine does not seem to work anymore, should i stop using it?
Stop Rogaine?
Feb 27, 2018
You absolutely should NOT stop using Rogaine. Although it doesn't stop all hair loss or progression over the years, it is very useful in minimizing hair loss and does not stop working. If you stop using it, all of the hair follicles that are dependent on it for growth and survival will fall out and you'll have a large shedding over a short period of time. Not sure if you're using it along with romaine, but propecia (finasteride) is a very effective oral pill and adjunct to Rogaine for...
