Answer Snippet
Will dental implants cause bone loss that changes the face after many years?
Will dental implants cause bone loss that changes the appearance of the face?
Jun 12, 2019
If the implant is placed well and maintained properly, it should do the exact opposite. It should actually help to maintain the jaw bone and prevent the jaw from resorbing and therefore getting smaller.

Is it safe to get a tooth extraction, bone grafting and implant placement on a molar in on
Can you have tooth extraction, bone grafting, and implant placement in one visit?
Jun 12, 2019
Bone grafting at the time of extraction is considered the standard of care and should definitely be done.
As far as being able to place the dental implant at that same visit, it would depend on many factors and will probably be determined during that visit by your implant dentist.

Could I see a Prosthodontist for 2nd opinion?
Should I get a second opinion if I’m not comfortable with my temporaries?
Jun 12, 2019
You should not proceed with final restorations until your provisional restorations satisfy your comfort, function, health, and aesthetics.
Does it have to necessarily be a prosthodontist? Absolutely not.
You need to find a dentist that has special training in helping patients that have temporomandibular disorder, otherwise known as TMD or TMJ.
I hope you found information to be helpful,
Dr. Champagne
Why after abutment was placed the gums are receding more?
Is it normal to have gum recession after a dental implant healing collar is placed?
Jun 12, 2019
Judging from the photograph that you included, that area should be looked at immediately.
That is not the appearance of a dental implant that is healing properly.
I hope you found this information to be helpful,
Dr. Champagne
Crowns Placed on Healing Abutments?
Can temporary crowns be placed on dental implant healing abutments?
Jun 12, 2019
Typically the answer is no because that is not their intended purpose and their shape is not designed to hold a crown very well.
If you desire to get temporary teeth on the implants prior to final restorations, then you can talk to your dentist about getting temporary crowns placed on temporary/final abutments.
I hope you found this information to be helpful,
Dr. Champagne
Is there a reason why sun exposure is not recommended after visiting the dentist?
Can you have sun exposure after dental implant placement?
Jun 12, 2019
I’m not aware of any reason that sun exposure would be detrimental following dental implant placement.
The only possibility that I can think of is if they will be prescribing medication that makes you photosensitive.
In that case, you would need to stay out of direct sun exposure.
I hope you found this information to be helpful,
Dr. Champagne
I have bone loss. Can I have partial dentures?
Treatment options when there is severe bone loss
Jun 12, 2019
If you truly do have severe bone loss, and the teeth are compromised, then they have a guarded/hopeless prognosis and doing heroics to save them just wouldn’t make sense.
If the bone loss is only moderate and the reasons for the bone loss can be addressed so it does not continue to progress, then it might make good sense to consider saving these teeth.
As far as the question of getting a partial, that would require enough teeth or implants to act as strong supports to hold the partial in p…
