Breast Feeding with Breast Implants

Women undergoing breast augmentation have a very small risk of having difficulty breast feeding after having breast implants placed under the muscle. But not all women can breast feed. When you consider the population as a whole, not all women can breast feed even if they have not had breast augmentation surgery.

When studies were performed on the effect of breast augmentation on breast feeding, over 90% of patients who breast fed their first child were able to breast feed their second child after breast implant surgery. However, if you have never had children and have undergone breast augmentation, you may or may not be able to breast feed.

This is not necessarily due to having the breast implants. It maybe that you maybe part of the population that are not able to breast feed regardless of the fact that you have breast implants.

If you are able to breast feed after breast augmentation surgery, you should strongly consider doing so as there are many benefits to your child and the implants do not pose any risk to you or your child.

I agree 650cc implants are quite large, too often people think size is everything in breast surgery. However, shape is the most important. Consider a second opionon to discuss other surgical options.

Lift for Best Result

Perhaps the biggest mistake made in cosmetic breast surgery is over augmenting saggy breasts that require a lift. Your nipples are below the level of the breast fold and a lift is required. Large implants without a lift will only produce more problems and you will be seeing another plastic surgeon as an unhappy patient requesting him to fix your breasts.

Care Credit and financing for plastic surgery

This is a complex matter to discuss and each surgeon may approach it differently. In many ways it comes down to semantics. It may be that surgeons do not charge a Care Credit patient more but that they offer cash paying patients a comparable discount of 1-5% because they do not have to pay these fees when accepting cash.

From your end, it looks as if they are charging more when they are actually getting paid less.

“Natural” look breast aug

You are very typical of what many plastic surgeons see in their practices on a daily basis – a small breasted, lean woman looking for a modest increase in size. Most US plastic surgeons would treat you with submuscular (partial) small silicone implants placed through either an areolar, inframammary or transaxillary approach.

Any approach should give you a good, natural looking result.

650 cc implant

Thanks for the pictures and information. In my opinion the size is too big for you. Especially in a moderate profile it will be wide for your frame. I would think a 450cc range moderate plus would be more natural.
You can always go bigger in the future but once stretched out by a big implant the damage is done and a lift is needed to remove the extra skin.

Saline implants over the muscle

The decision of whether to use silicone or saline implants is not based on how they look, but how they feel. Saline and silicone implants LOOK the same. If there is enough tissue covering them, they also feel the same.

However, if there is only a small amount of tissue between the skin and the implant, the saline one feels more like a water balloon, while the silicone one feels more like natural fat. The only place I have been able to feel a difference is under the breast.

This is where the overlying tissue is the thinnest. This is the same with implants placed under the muscle, since the inferior part of the implant is never under the muscle. I have, for years, until the silicone implants were again available, placed saline implants over the muscle in more than 95% of patients.
All these looked extremely natural and as good as the silicone ones in the same position.

Smoking

Let’s be realistic-it’s one of the most difficult habits to kick and I congratulate anyone who can do it safely. WE will absolutely not do surgery on smokers who want tummy tucks, facelifts and breast lift/reduction due to possible serious wound healing issues.

They cannot be on Chantix either. With breast augmentation we would prefer for them not to smoke for two weeks prior but that is not alwyas doable.

How to Reduce Pain and Recovery Time After Breast Implants Surgery?

Pain following breast augmentation surgery varies greatly and most importantly with her level of activity. If you avoid lifting, rest, and do not use her arms to push out of a chair or sitting on the bed but keep her hands full on your lab for in front of your waist there’ll be much less stimulus for painYour surgeon can reduce her pain level by injecting the cut edge of the chest muscle with 24 hour acting local anesthetic.
In my patients who rest and do not uses her upper arms and in whom I have injected the anesthetic into the muscle after surgery very little pain occurs. For more read below

Saggy breast

Unfortunately, you have a lot of breast tissue below your folds, despite your nipples being at the proper position. Implants alone will accentuate this. For a nicer result, a lift would be required. An exam and consultation with a plastic surgeon is to discuss your options and expectations.

At your size, yes 650cc seems too large…

Your goals additional to your body measurements are important to arriving for a beautiful long lasting breast enhancement. To that end, it seems at your body surface area, photos, and weight make you a smaller person.
Any implant larger than 450cc is considered large. A 650cc implant is large, weighs more than 1 lb and likely will hinder any athletic activity or exercise. I do over 500 implants a year and only a hand full are the size you mention.

It is NOT true that breast implants need to be replaced every 10 years.

This is a very common idea, but it is not true. If your breast implants look fine and feel fine, leave them alone. In New York City, we tell breast aumentation patients who have SILICONE implants to have an MRI of the breasts every 2 or 3 years, because a silicone implant could be leaking and you would not know it .

The silicone gel stays in place whether the implant shell is intact or not.

Breast Augmentation Questions

It is impossible to give you an answer based on photographs over the internet. Breast implant sizing is based on both patient aesthetic desires and your body’s anatomic capacity. Please visit a few ABPS certified/ASAPS member surgeons.

You know you’re at the right doctor when you here these key issues discussed: avoiding the nipple incision/use of the inframammary incision, using the Keller funnel for implant delivery, no narcotic pain meds prescribed/Motrin only, and rapid return to normal daily activities.

Why do same size implants look bigger on some women than other women?

There are many factors that play into sizing for breast implants. For a woman with more breast volume before surgery, she may not prefer a very large implant. But for another woman with the same amount of breast volume she may prefer to be much larger and go with a larger implant.
As well when it comes to augmentations you have to take into consideration the patients height and weight. For a 5’5″ woman at about 120lbs she may prefer 300cc’s to 400cc’s but a 5’7″ woman 150lbs may prefer to have an implant ranging from 400cc’s-500cc’s.

Patient preference in outcome, their height, and even weight are all the things I take into consideration during an augmentation consultation.

The patient should look natural and conservative to give the best results.

Breast Implants – High Profile or Moderate Profile

As always, there are no absolute answers, and this needs to be discussed in person with your own plastic surgeon. However, as soon as I hear the word “deflated” I start to think about adding a breast lift to the implants.
It’s not that I prefer that procedure – in fact, I feel it’s one of the more complicated procedures [implants with a lift] and should be chosen only as a last resort – but if you need one, you need one.

Sometimes you can get away with a lift on only one side if they’re very different, etc. But in your case I think you would benefit most from a lift AND implants of about 250-300 cc, depending on exactly what you’re looking for.

I would normally recommend smooth, round, moderate plus, silicone gel implants under the muscle for the best combination in terms of the most “natural” result. [If you really want to be natural – just stay the way you are!] If your (ie, the patient’s) skin is thick enough and there’s only a little sagging, then putting in a large enough implant will give you an excellent result.

Although it’s hard to say 100% from the photos, I suspect putting large implants in you – such as the 375’s you’re talking about – will cause additional and more pronounced sagging after 6 months or so.

Again, this is between you and your surgeon, but those are my thoughts.
