How to Decide: Veneers or Braces (or Invisalign)?
Jan 16, 2019
You asked a great question, and you are a good health consumer in that you are really searching for an answer that matches your goals. As a cosmetic dentist, the state of the art now is to pre-plan everything in 3D before starting any new care in your mouth. We use a planning technique called Digital Smile Design. I use video to see what your face and your smile are doing In Motion. This is a key, because that’s how the rest of the world experiences our smile. With that I design a simulation …
Are crowns a better solution than veneers to close my gap?
How to Close a Front Teeth Gap?
Jul 16, 2018
Many people decide they’d like to get rid of their gap in their front teeth. The issue is–What’s the BEST way to do that?As a Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, we take seriously the intention of “Responsible Esthetics”. What that means to me, is let’s get a great result, but with serious concern for the mildest approach possible for your teeth. To get a great cosmetic result you DO have to be aware of things like how the bite fits–it really can make or break the final o…
Can retainers go on veneers?
Retainers are OK over Veneers
Mar 13, 2018
Yes, there is no problem to have retainers over your veneers. Some retainers now are clear and thin (like Invisalign), so those are no issue at all. Some of the “traditional” ones with a wire across the front always have some of that wire going over a space in your teeth to connect it to the part on the roof of your mouth. For some peoples bite alignment, you can wind up biting on those wires and I don’t want that for my veneer patients. The other device we make is a combination retainer …
What Can I Do About my Crooked Mouth/lips/smile?
What to Fix First?
Mar 13, 2018
You have wonderful questions, and really what you need is a practitioner who can manage both TMJ issues AND your cosmetic concerns. I’d start by addressing your jaw pain first. There are not a ton of successful TMJ dentists out there. Many general dentists don’t want to treat these kind of issues.Your smile and lip display may change once the pain decreases. The other preliminary approach my patients have found helpful is using DSD- Digital Smile Design. With that we assess with video how y…
Can I get veneers on just my front two teeth?
One veneer, or more?
Mar 13, 2018
One very dark tooth is just hard to hide in your everyday smile.First, think about having Internal Whitening done, that can lighten the base color a LOT. Whether you have a few veneers or not, this makes for a better color blend across all of the front teeth. Many dentists CAN be this sort of whitening, but a Cosmetic Dentist will be able to get better results.Regarding how many veneers do you need, well, part of the answer depends upon how much you dislike the rest of your smile. IF you hav…

Ensuring Great final Veneer Results
Nov 12, 2016
It’s very disappointing to not like your final veneers. To get a great final result, requires communicating a number of things well with the lab. A good cosmetic dentist will do some or all of these things:1) Take an assortment of photos of your temporaries.2) Make a model of your temporaries and provide that to the lab.3) Take some video of you speaking with your temporaries in. That way the lab can see the same movements and alignments with your face and your lips that the Dentist sees.4) …
Can I fix my smile with veneers or crowns?
Invisible Options to Correct Your Smile
Nov 17, 2015
Most people are somewhat self-conscious when there is something in their smile they don’t like. Entering the workforce with a smile that you are less than comfortable with can be stressful as well.In your case, since teeth have pushed outward so much, it will be difficult to just disguise them with veneers or bonding. A good cosmetic dentist would tell you that you need to have some re-straightening of your teeth. The good news is that you can do that without having anything that shows…
