Breast augmentation and fitness/athletic performance

It looks like you will get a very nice result from a breast augmentation. Every surgeon has their own preferred technique for implant placement. I generally prefer the dual plane technique because it facilitate a very nice natural tear drop shape result in many different body types.

I treat many women who compete in sports or body building/fitness events. All are able to return to their desired performance level after breast augmentation. Remember, you need to give yourself time to heal after any procedure.

Options for Tubular Breast Deformity

Tubular breast deformity is not always a straight forward surgery. Not only will you need implants but a mastopexy or breast lift of the tubular breast as well as correction of the tubular breast and possibly a breast lift of the normal breast (if it’s unilateral) as well.

Breast implants, whether from Allergan or Mentor all have about a 1% per year rupture rate. So will you need another surgery in your lifetime? The answer is yes. But this may be due to a need for a breast lift due to sagging from aging for breast feeding, Not necessarily due to implant rupture.
If silicone implants are used most patients only find out they are ruptured when they get a mammogram. So don’t worry and get the correction. My tubular breast patients are so happy after surgery that anything else is a distant worry.

Breast Augmentation scars are almost never an issue.

If you are not happy with your breast augmentation, it will not be because of the scars .

Can implants alone give me a good result?

No, unfortunately implants alone would not be the answer in this case. You will need a lift as well on the larger breast. When you have this much asymmetry it can be very challenging so it is important you search out your surgeon carefully for experience in this procedure.

The implants to not get hard

The implants themselves do not get hard. A rare, but real consideration is capsular contraction. This is caused by your body forming scar tissue around the capsule. As the scar contracts, the implant is squeezed and may feel hard.

The hardness is actually due to the scar tissue, not the implant.

Surgeon and patient work together to decide breast implant size

There are different schools of thought on this question, with some plastic surgeons preferring to use sizing implants at surgery to determine the best fit. This however does not allow for the patient to have any input so there is the possibility of disappointment.

What is important is to use the breast measurements, especially base diameter, as a starting point. Based on that and the patient’s preference, the right implant can be mutually selected in advance.

Smoking and breast augmentation

Some details regarding your medical status would be useful. As a general statement in healthy young women it is not required that they stop smoking before breast augmentation. It is important that smokers realize that they have increased risks from the surgery.

Capsular contracture two weeks post-op?
Even though all plastic surgeons strive to perform exactly the same operation on each breast (even though breasts are usually somewhat asymmetrical to start with), bleeding, bruising, swelling, and even subtle variables like which side you sleep on the most, which hand is dominant and therefore used more, or which side has more sensitive nerve endings, make healing at this stage almost NEVER identical.

Capsular contracture is also rare these days, especially with careful technique, Keller Funnel use, no-touch implant handling, Betadine or Adams formula irrigations, etc. Early CC is possible, but extremely unlikely, even if all of those other factors could be ruled out, which they cannot.

I’d be much more concerned about blood in the pocket or a pocket that was created slightly smaller than the opposite. Follow up with your surgeon and realize that a good personal examination will “trump” every opinion here, no matter how carefully thought out and presented.
Small size implants

The only solution to put them bigger is to go for a replacement surgery six months after the primary procedure and choosing bigger implants and you will be happy.

If the implant and breast are happy then there is no reason to replace the implant. If for some reason the implant has a rupture then it’s time for an update.

If there has been an unsightly change in the breast shape, size, or position, then it’s time for a refreshment. The gummy bear implants have a lifetime warranty.

Natural Look for Uneven Breasts – Type of Surgery?


We have seen many patients with asymmetric breasts and treated them to achieve very close symmetry and a natural look. After initial evaluation, different sizes and styles of implants will be used to visualize your desired cosmetic goal.
Should I have saline or silicone done?

I think you are starting from a very nice position and should obtain a very nice result. Implant type is a personal decision as both types of devices are safe and lead to predictable results.

I tend to recommend patient’s silicone implants as they trend towards fewer complications, feel and look more natural, and weigh less than saline.
