Breast asymmetry after augmentation
Breast asymmetry is very common. Your surgeon tried to even out this asymmetry by filling the left implant with more volume, which is the appropriate thing to do.
I’m sure that on the operating table, the breasts appeared very symmetrical.
Your stress with your current asymmetry is understandable, and it’s difficult to be patient, but you need to let the implants settle. This type of early post-operative appearance is common.
Your left breast was smaller, and it now has a larger implant compared to the right side.
Therefore, the implant pocket is tighter compared to the right. This can cause more swelling, and the implant will sit higher on the chest compared to the right because of the pocket tightness. As the breasts settle, I’m sure you will appear more and more symmetrical.
Wait about 6 months, and if there is persistent asymmetry, discuss this with your surgeon. At that time, if needed, a minor “tweak” of your implant volume can even out any residual asymmetry.
Breast lift is the preferred option
It would be better for you to have a lift. An implant would give you a compromised outcome. Your choices are nothing, a lift with the associated scars, or an implant with residual sagging and an outcome that might not be pleasing to you.
375 or 400 cc breast implants
It might be helpful for you to recognize that 25 cc is less than 2 tablespoons, and cup size is a highly variable way to measure breast size. It is based on the size of the chest as much as the breast, and the final breast volume is implants plus your exisitng breast tissue.
Do I absolutely have to get a lift with implants?
It does appear that you would benefit from adding a lift to your breast augmentation. However, if you’re happy with a natural look then it’s completely reasonable to get an augmentation and wait six months to see if you’re happy.
A lift can be performed later.
Cohesive gel implants are frequently called gummy bear gels
There is, and has been some confusion the newer styled cohesive gel breast implants. Memory gel is the product from Mentor and Natrelle is the product from Allergan. In my experience most women refer to this type of implant as the gummy bear type gel implant.
There is a new implant, yet to be release in the US, this is the Style 410 by allergan. This is a form stable gel and is firmer than the existing cohesive gel. I believe from your question you are interested in this type of gel implant, the cohesive gel.
These are currently available to any woman over 22. The cost of an implant is only a portion of the fee for the entire surgery. In the Atlanta area the cost for the implant itself is $2,000 / pair (for 2).
The cost for the surgical fee, anesthesia and supplies will of course vary from location to location. Find a good board certified plastic surgeon in your area and have your specific questions answered.
Implant size
It is important that the implants are the appropriate width for your chest. Higher profile implants will have a rounder look, and may be associated with a greater need for surgery in the future.
I’m thinking to get 425c or 450c breast augmentation. Where do you recommend my incision? I want to get my incision periareolar
Only if your areolae are larger sized… Otherwise at 450 cc the incision needs to be infra mammary location in my over the internet opinion.
Age for breast augmentation
It appears that you would be an excellent candidate for breast augmentation. There is no particular age at which point one is “too old” to obtain breast implants. As long as you have good health and are a good surgical candidate, there is no reason for you not to move forward with your surgery.
The implants will help to restore the upper pole fullness that is typically lost with childbearing.
Size increase
There is no exact scientific formula but I generally tell my patients that around 250 cc increases the breast one cup size. The size implants you mention seen quite small, even for someone looking for a moderate improvement.
Implants are too large
650 cc implants are very large, and likely too large for your body. Going too large has numerous risks, some of which are irreversible. In addition, saline implants are an inferior product to the silicone gel implants, you should consider using silicone implants instead.
Silicone implants look and feel much more natural and are very safe. You should consider obtaining consultations from a couple plastic surgeons in order to make sure you make the correct choice. and best of luck.
Biggest Breast implants in the world in Danger?
Yes, Sheyla Hershey’s large implants have certainly damaged her breast skin. The larger the implant, the more “stretched out” the skin will become. This will lead to a thinning of the skin and risk the implant extruding through the skin.
Breast asymmetry: lift or reduction?
Breast reduction surgery can remove a small amount of breast tissue or a large amount. In this case, breast reduction can be done on both sides with more being taken out of the left breast.
You are an excellent candidate for the vertical or ‘lollipop incision’ breast reduction. The wise pattern or ‘anchor incision’ would result in a large scar under your breasts which is avoidable with the vertical breast reduction.
With a small breast reduction on the right and a slightly larger reduction on the left, both breasts are lifted and better long term results will be seen.
Running after implants.
I generally tell my patients not to run for 2 weeks and then to use a sports or jogging bra for the 1st 6 weeks after surgery. It is best to check with your surgeon for postop restrictions.
Below the muscle is better in my book!
The benefits of under the muscle placement outweigh the downsides. First, when I talk about under the muscle, I am talking about a dual plane technique whereby the lower part of the implant is under the breast tissue and the upper part of the implant is under the muscle.
If the implant is placed under the entire muscle, the implant is typically pushed out and down, spreading the cleavage unnaturally wide. Second, the benefits of placing them in the dual plane position are many.
a) decreased capsule contracture (hardening of the implants) when compared with above the muscle.
b) Smoother implant edges to give a more natural result when compared with above the muscle implants.
c) Less sagging over the long term.
Face it – implants add weight and stress to your breasts that will add to the downward pull over time. When the implant is above the muscle, the breast tissue does not offer much support against the ravages of gravity.
In contrast, the muscle on top of the implant adds significantly more support which bodes well for a more natural and durable result.
So what are the downsides to placing the implant behind the muscle.
a) It hurts more during the postoperative period.
b) some patients experience funny breast movements when they are contracting the chest muscles forcefully.
I will also place them in this position for professional body builders. Many doctors suggest placing the implant under the gland to improve a sagging or ptotic breast. I am opposed to this technique and suggest a lift for this problem.
It is simple, if you are sagging – Fix the Sag.
