What is the best over-the-counter drugstore treatments for cystic/nodular deep acne?
Over the Counter Treatment for Cystic Acne?
Aug 28, 2018
Hello! Unfortunately there are no great over-the-counter treatments for cystic/nodular deep acne. Adapalene Topical and Benzyl Peroxide are available over the counter, however they primarily improve comedonal acne “white heads/black heads”. For deep acne (nodular/cystic), usually higher strength topicals available by prescription, oral antibiotics, or accutane are the treatments of choice. Best of luck to you!
Are Photo facial (IPL Lazer) treatments effective for African American skin tones?
IPL for African American skin tones?
Feb 13, 2018
IPL for African American skin can be challenging to treat, especially for the darker skin tones. You may end up with more complications than success. Typically I treat patients with darker skin tones with topical treatments and a series of chemical peels before laser or IPL devices. All the best!

Does this mole look A-tpyical, like a Melanoma or normal?
Normal Head Mole
Aug 23, 2016
Yes, it’s a normal mole. It doesn’t need to be removed unless it is becoming irritated from combing your hair. If it becomes darker or grows, then it may warrant an evaluation by a dermatologist.
Is there a name for this bump or mole?
Lesion on scalp
Aug 19, 2016
Hello, it appears to be either an irritated seborrheic keratosis or a nevus sebaceous. Both are benign lesions, but on rare instances the nevus sebaceous can develop into a basal cell carcinoma. Therefore I may warrant another evaluation by your dermatologist.
Is this a mole? If not, what?
Holy moly
Aug 11, 2016
Yes, it is a mole or nevus. Regarding removal, there is no topical treatment. They can be surgically removed by shaving or cutting and stitching by a professional. However, your moles are benign in appearance and no treatment is necessary. If you do wish to have them removed for cosmetic purposes, I recommend you speak with your local dermatologist.
Picked a mole off of my arm, now scared!
Self Mole Removal
Aug 2, 2016
The lesion is likely benign and could be a keratosis, which is a benign thickening of the outer layer of the skin. It is not likely of any concern unless it doesn’t heal after a few weeks or grows and becomes darker. To help it heal, just Vaseline and a bandage is needed.
Acne scars on forehead. What type of treatment would help me?
Acne Scars
Jul 29, 2016
First there are different types of acne scars that respond to treatments differently. Ice pick scarring is the least responsive to lasers and/or chemical peels. These sometimes need to be surgically removed. Rolling and box car type scarring is more responsive to laser. The common types of lasers used are ones that stimulate collagen such as fractionated CO2 or Erbium. Additional treatments include chemical peeling and/or subcision (a needle inserted beneath the scar to break up…
