Biography: Alexis has been an RN since 1995. She grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she began her nursing career as a long-term care nurse. Looking for a new adventure, she moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where she was selected to participate in a perioperative 101 course and quickly fell in love with the OR. She lived and worked in Steamboat Springs for 20 years, specializing in orthopedic trauma and sports medicine. After that, she wanted another adventure and began travel nursing. First of all I ask my patients to quit smoking at least 3 weeks prior to surgery. This is because quitting smoking is a very stressful period and should not be superimposed on the stress of recent surgery. It is better to focus on one aspect at a time.
