Urinary Catheter for breast augmentation- is it standard?
Urinary Catheter for breast augmentation- is it standard?
Apr 30, 2020
A urinary catheter would not be considered standard for an augmentation and lift as this may increase the risk for infection and is unnecessary based on the duration of the procedure. Most surgeons and anesthesiologists recommend being NPO for eight hours prior to the procedure, although small sips of water may be allowed to take medications. Your surgeon will advise you on his/her requirements prior to surgery.

Advice needed - breast reduction and lift, or reduction then implants? What will scarring be like for my skin type?
Apr 30, 2020
Thank you for your question. My initial advice to you is to define your goals. What is your primary objective? How big do want your breasts to be? How do you want them to look, natural or having an augmented appearance? If you simply want them to be smaller, a reduction will both reduce and lift your breasts. If you like an augmented look, reducing them even smaller and placing an implant will give you more upper pole fullness. It difficult to predict scarring without taking a...

Can my tuberous breasts be fixed with constricted tissue release and implants, and avoid a lift?
Apr 30, 2020
While your nipples point slightly downward, you do do appear to have tuberous breasts, nor do you necessarily appear to need a lift. Placement of the implants in a dual plane pocket with the release of the muscle inferiorly, as well as the release of the breast tissue from the lower aspect of the muscle should allow the implant to stretch and fill out the lower pole of the breasts. This should give you a fairly natural result. Good luck!
How realistic is it to expect my nipples to point in the same direction?
How realistic is it to expect my nipples to point in the same direction?
Apr 30, 2020
Realistic expectations are important, and it seems by your question that you understand the challenge that your situation presents. Volume symmetry should be achievable. Nipple position and areola diameter should also be fairly close post-operatively. However, you should be prepared to accept some degree of asymmetry with your final result, particularly in terms of scarring due to the need for a lift on the left side. I would probably recommend placing the implants in a...
How would a doctor approach my asymmetry?
How would a doctor approach my asymmetry?
Apr 30, 2020
Breast asymmetry is very common. In your case, a slightly larger implant on the right side with an adjustment of the inframammary fold should help you achieve a symmetric result. Good luck!
Will a lift be enough after breast feeding and losing 75 lbs?
Will a lift be enough after breast feeding and losing 75 lbs?
Apr 29, 2020
If you are satisfied with the volume of your breasts, but dissatisfied with the appearance, then a lift should be sufficient. If not, then you may need to consider having an implant placed. After the lift, not only should your breasts be perky, but the volume asymmetry should be able to be corrected at the same time. Good luck!
Will a lift reduce the size of my breasts?
Will a lift reduce the size of my breasts
Apr 29, 2020
Generally speaking, a lift by itself is unlikely to alleviate your back pain. An experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon should be able to determine your current natural breast volume. If this is deemed to be a C cup, then removing your implants, with or without a lift, should resolve the back pain issue and provide the volume you desire. If this volume is smaller than a C cup, then the exchange of your current implants to a smaller size (again...
Would you recommend a full Tummy Tuck or Mini Tummy Tuck?
Would you recommend a full Tummy Tuck or Mini Tummy Tuck?
Apr 29, 2020
This is a common question that I hear from patients. In your case, a full tummy tuck is your best option, as it will correct the upper abdominal wall laxity and the appearance of the belly button, while a mini tummy tuck does not address either issue. You also appear to have an umbilical hernia which could be repaired at the time of the tummy tuck. Good luck!
Do I need a breast lift with an augmentation?
Do I need a breast lift with an augmentation?
Apr 29, 2020
Based on your photographs, you do not appear to need a breast lift. During your consultation, your surgeon should discuss with you your options regarding the augmentation. Round implants will give you a fuller, rounder look with more cleavage than a shaped implant. Because you are thin and don't have a lot of breast tissue, I would consider a silicone implant placed in a dual-plane (under the muscle) pocket. Good luck!
Extended Tummy Tuck or Circumferential?
Extended Tummy Tuck or Circumferential?
Apr 29, 2020
Congratulations on your weight loss. You should be proud of yourself. Your surgical plan depends on your goals. If the appearance of your buttocks bothers you, then then a circumferential lower body lift would be appropriate. If it does not, then proceed with the extended tummy tuck. If you decide to complete the buttock lift at a later date, you would still be able to achieve the same result as if you had done them simultaneously. Good luck!
What size and type of implant do you recommend? And will I need a lift?
An augmentation and lift is your best option
Apr 29, 2020
In order to achieve the result you posted, an augmentation and lift is your best option. These can be performed simultaneously in an accredited operating room under general anesthesia. Smooth, round, cohesive gel implants would likely be your best bet to mimic the results you showed. Unfortunately, there is no way achieve this result without at at least a vertical lollipop scar. You will to decide if having more scarring is worth a better overall shape...

I am wondering if I can still achieve a natural look in both size and shape after my weight loss?
Apr 29, 2020
Congratulations on your weight loss. From your photographs, you appear fortunate to have maintained symmetric, youthful breasts. Your surgeon should be able to help you determine what size, shape, and type of implant will help you best achieve your goals. Good luck!
I would like to correct the asymmetry of my breasts. I am not interested in implants. Advice?
I would like to correct the asymmetry of my breasts. I am not interested in implants. Advice?
Apr 29, 2020
The most straightforward solution would be to perform liposuction on the left side. I would anticipate that his could be done in the office under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia in well under an hour. This would correct the volume asymmetry with minimal scarring and downtime. Although the differences in nipple and inframammary fold location would remain, I believe it is likely to be the best option.
Will I regret not getting a lift along with the implants if it was recommended?
Will I regret not getting a lift along with the implants if it was recommended?
Apr 29, 2020
Based on your photographs, an augmentation with a lift would provide the most youthful appearing breasts. However, it appears possible to achieve a satisfactory result without a lift as long as you are willing to have the implants placed in lower position on the chest wall with the nipples remaining somewhat low, particularly the left. Placing an implant only, without a lift, however, will not correct the asymmetry. Larger implants are not going to...
Why do some doctors use general anesthesia if local can be used for a SMAS facelift?
Why do some doctors use general anesthesia if local can be used for a SMAS facelift?
Apr 29, 2020
This is typically due to surgeon preference. General anesthesia, intravenous sedation with local anesthesia, or local anesthesia alone are all viable options for this procedure. Patient selection is important, and input from the patient should guide the final decision.
