Can I get implants after having wore dentures for several years?
The earlier the better….
Jun 29, 2017
Without a CT scan I can’t give you a definitive answer, but in most cases it will be possible for you to get implants in the future. However, the longer you wait, the surgery can and will most likely be more complicated possibly requiring multiple surgeries that include extensive bone grafting procedures.
As other doctors have answered previously, without a tooth or implant, you will continually lose bone over time. If you have a good amount of bone…
My dentist chose the wrong shade of composite on my chipped tooth. Should I seek a new dentist? (Ph
Shade Match
Jun 29, 2017
I would definitely discuss your concerns with the dentist that completed your bonding. I do agree with you that the shade appears to be off and you can see a clear line of where the bonding stops and your tooth starts.
This is often an easy fix, and I wouldn’t expect the dentist to charge you any additional fee.
Bridge too high. What should I do?
Bridge Too High
Jun 29, 2017
It is very common for a new bridge to feel “strange” or “different”, especially a long span bridge as you have, but you should not be experiencing pain.
Without seeing photos of your mouth I can not give you an answer on why the bridge is several mm’s higher than the rest of your teeth. There could be several reasons why the bridge was designed this way, with the most common reason being the position of your upper teeth.
However, a more important…
I would like to fix both front teeth. Dental bonding or veneers?
Dental Bonding vs. Veneers
Jun 29, 2017
My personal philosophy is that I would like to do the least amount of dentistry to achieve the desired goals of my patient. If your goal is to just address the one chipped tooth, then dental bonding will be my recommended treatment. I rarely recommend one porcelain veneer because it is very difficult to get a perfect color match when only addressing one tooth.
If your goal is to address both teeth than my recommendation would be to have two porcelain veneers. Even though…
Color choice with dental crowns
Final Shade Determination
Jun 29, 2017
Final shade determination is a very difficult decision and it is a topic that I discuss at great length with my patients before starting treatment.
It is normal for your temporary crowns to look different than the vita classic guide, and it is something that I am not concerned about. The temporary crowns are monochromatic (one shade) while the color on the shade guide is more like what your final crowns will look like as it is layered with areas that…
Does this lower molar implant look unnatural?
Implant Crown Contours
Jun 29, 2017
Dental Implants are great tooth replacements, but they do have several disadvantages as compared to natural teeth. The tooth that your implant crown is replacing had two roots, and even though your dentist used a “wide” implant, the width of the implant is still narrower that the previous roots. This becomes a challenge for your dentist because he or she wants the crown to be the same width as your previous tooth, but there needs to be a smooth transition…
Asymmetrical teeth and smile. What can be done to improve my profile?
Imperfect Symmetry
Jun 29, 2017
When I discuss anterior aesthetics with my patients I often use a term called “Imperfect Symmetry”. This is where I want the smile to be symmetrical, but with slight imperfections. I find these imperfections is what makes a smile natural.
When I look at your smile, I agree with you that your right side is longer than your left. I agree with one of the previous answers, that cosmetic recontouring can completed by shortening your right side. However, if you prefer the…
