Is a SMAS facelift at 42 too young?
Not necessarily

. . . and you should have nice improvements of your developing jowl areas and/or early neck laxity with a “mini-facelift”, which I have performed on patients as young as you. This is thought to achieve an average of a “7-10 year improvement” in most patients (perhaps less so in younger, more subtle cases), but should also “slow down” future aging to a degree. Best regards!

Pain and numbness after facelift

It’s unfortunate that you are still experiencing discomfort this far out from your surgery.  I have seen improvement in sensation and nerve issues as far as 18 months out, so you will hopefully continue to improve in the future.

Greater auricular nerve injury during facelift
Jul 17, 2019
The greater auricular nerve is vulnerable to injury during facelifts, and can be injured by being cut, cauterized, caught in a suture, or just beat up.  The various types of injury do tend to heal, with the exception of a nerve that has been completely interrupted and not repaired.  Assuming this is not the case (most of us would repair the nerve ends if they were seen to be cut during surgery) then you should see continued recovery of sensation.  The rule of thumb is that nerves re…

. . .  in that patients (especially in the summer) can get more sun than they think through thinner clothes (and non-UV-protected bathing suits), even “under there”. Probably won’t be as necessary after several months/when fall arrives, and most scarring is determined by genetics/”tincture of time” anyway. Hope this helps!
Can paralysis of lower lip resolve?
Yes
Apr 25, 2019
I would estimate this could take at least 3-6 months (possibly longer) to resolve, and certainly no potential interventions should be planned before this time (but of course stay in touch with your surgeon for reassessments as she sees fit . . . )
